I am a female junior in high school out of state (from Washington).

    3.0 GPA
    Varsity Swimmer
    Varsity Water Polo Player
    Club Swimmer
    Club Water Polo Player
    Key Club (started this year)
    DECA (2 years)

Taking 2 science classes, a pre-calc, and comprehensive english class this year

I am very close to breaking VMI's school record in the 100 breaststroke and the 50 free. I have filled out recruiting questionnaires and the coach (for water polo) was impressed with my times and height (5'11).

Anyways, will my chances of be recruited for swimming and water polo increase my chance of getting accepted?

What school in Washington do you attend? We live in Seattle. My son played water polo and swam during the summer. Unfortunately, he played football and therefore couldn't do water polo in high school. I know they just actively recruited a bunch of women for their water polo team (mostly from California) so they probably have a young team and may not be looking for as many next year. I'm guessing that Title IX is keeping them from fielding a men's water polo team. My son got in with a slightly higher GPA but he had a pretty good SAT score and has been taking Honors and AP science and math classes. Plus he is an Eagle Scout. 5'11" is great for water polo. Do you play hole?

IMHO- Yes. VMI is trying hard to find academically, physically qualified, interested women in general, and in the first year of a new Women's sport (Water Polo), so I'm sure that they will be looking for prospects to get that program firmly established.
3.0 is below the overall average but not unreasonably low (3.5 is an average not a requirement). How are your SAT's? I think you sound like a pretty attractive package to them, especially if you are interested in commissioning in one of the services as well.

    Good Luck.:thumb:

That’s provided you pass their background check. I hear they are stepping up on that in the last few years, not sure why. Are you listed on those people search sites? If you are, you might want to address that before applying.

Water polo experience will help, but definitely try to improve your GPA. They want to see that you'll be ready to handle the academic rigors on top of the physical challenges, and being on an NCAA team will require awesome time management skills.

Have you been in touch with the coach? If not, feel free to PM me. I can get you in touch with the coach and some of the female cadets on the team.

    Good luck,

I have been in touch with the coach, and trying to to get in contact with the swim coach as well.
