Change in sports - too late?

I’ve recently began my sophomore year of HS playing no sports at all. Compared to my previous year, where I ran XC and Winter Track, I have decided to instead play volleyball in the spring and dedicated the fall and winter to studying and EC’s. Volleyball is a completely new sport to me with which I have little experience but enjoy playing nonetheless. My main concern here is how such an abrupt change to a new sport would be interpreted by the academies, specifically USNA? I’m feeling like it’s too late, especially when the academies look for dedication and commitment to a sport.

I would encourage you to keep up with all three, if possible. As noted by @cczjz, it should not impact your "application" if you change sports. There are many factors that will impact your competitiveness. As I tell my students, focus on all three areas of academics, athletics and activities, and work toward being a leader in all three. Best of luck with your preparations!

... so it's not too late however...
you must finish what you started because your athletic involvement must be listed in the application.

If you stick with it, you'll have two years by the time you start your application, and a third pending for your senior year. Doesn't seem too bad to me, but I'm a senior this year and know nothing.

Mainly I just wanted to say good luck in volleyball, and I hope you love it. It's a tough sport because it's usually a small team without much downtime in games, but also a lot of fun and you really get to bond with your teammates. Good luck!
