"Charlie Wilson's War" opens in theaters today.
So - have any of you heard of Charlie Wilson or his "War" before this movie came out?
Charlie Wilson is a 1956 graduate of the US Naval Academy and a former US Representative from Texas.

I am curious. I may just ditch all my Christmas shopping this weekend and see it.

The question for me is could a playboy congressman, a socialite and a CIA agent really cause the fall of the Soviet Union and end the Cold War?

Intriguing. I will see the movie then become obsessed with separating the Hollywood from the facts.

You see that is y I select what I see at the theatres...I want to go and shut my mind off, I don't want to sit there and say in my mind and raise the b***S*** flag. I can do that home 3 mos later and not regret that I just spent $50 to see it (that includes the popcorn...it's a dealbreaker)

Actually, no. It was a little more complicated than that if I recall correctly.

    Has anyone seen the movie?

Don't want to spoil it for anyone.

I went and saw it on Christmas Day - I also saw the History Channel program on Charlie Wilson. It is quite a story. The very last part of the film was typical Aaron Sorkin, however. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

According from what I saw on the history channel the movie is pretty true to the facts - including the very beginning (and on the previews) where he is frolicking in a hot tub at a party and just happens to see Dan Rather's report on the Afghan war. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

I saw Charlie Wilson's War...and enjoyed it. One of our Christmas traditions is to see a "first run" movie. It was a good one to watch with a 19 year old who is interested in history and war. At least he was willing to be seen in public with his folks...

From what I read the movie followed Charlie Wilson's history fairly well but perhaps downplayed Vickers's role. An interesting artlcle about Michael Vickers: http://smallwarsjournal.com/blog/2007/12/michael-vickerss-war/
