Does anyone know anything about cheering at the Naval Academy? I've heard that they do accept people without prior cheer experience but is that really true? I tried to look on their website but it's a few years out of date and has no contact information.

Congrats on your appointment, think I saw that? You're a poster girl for persevering. :thumb:

You will get all kinds of briefs over the summer, as well as tryout opportunities, for various activities, groups, etc. Some people have cheer background, some gymnastics, some dance, some just all-round athleticism and strength. Like everything else at USNA, how it's done one year can change in the next.

In general, I would say USNA is open to people learning, as long as they have some basic skills. I watched high school basketball players, both men and women, not at Div I USNA level, come to USNA and learn rugby - move ball up and down a playing field, get physical, play as a team, score. I had a sponsor daughter who was a high school performing arts type, with good dance skills, flexibility and extroverted nature, but no cheer background, make the cheerleading squad.

You can give cheer a shot when the opportunity comes up. Until then, just enjoy life as I Day looms!

I think Cheerleading is based on tryouts and does not require prior experience. Go with it and anyone that can do a slip jig set or a Treble Jig hard shoe at a Feis should make it.:thumb:

Hi,

My DD is currently a USNA cheerleader. She has a background in gymnastics but not everyone does. Tryouts are 2X a year. There is a tryout during Plebe summer.

Please feel free to contact me privately if you have more specific questions.
