I have recently been accepted to north Georgia and have already applied to citadel for class of 2016. I am torn between these two schools. I plan to take army ROTC and hope to commission as an officer. I have already visited both schools, and I was wondering if anyone has any advice or thoughts about either school, maybe pros and cons.
Thanks

The main thing that's going to come with a Citadel diploma is the name. Of course, that name means something. But that's what you get, in the end. That name is arguably more well-known, and has a firmer root, I truly believe, in society in general, than does North Georgia. The alumni network of The Citadel is also arguably stronger than that at North Georiga. This will especially be helpful when you separate from the military and might be looking for a job. Truly, that is probably the best thing about the alumni network.

DS states (and he heard this from many others) that while it is not a great school to be at (especially knob year), It is a great school to be from. DS made his choice because of the history of the school, the small student body, degrees in his area of interest and the opportunity to play IC sports. Ultimately it comes down to which school best meets your needs/desires. Scholarship awards and honors programs may also influence your decision.

It ultimately depends on what you want.

The Citadel obviously has a very structured military environment, while North Georgia is not as strict and allows more personal freedom.

Also, there is the civilian aspect at North Georgia

Regarding AROTC, North Georgia has the highest percentages for successful LDAC performances out of all SMCs

As SCCandidate explained, the Citadel is more well known and can help with finding a job after the Army

I visited both schools. The locations for both are great. I was just not very impressed with the academics at North Georgia. However, academics are not always the most important for everyone.

In my opinion, I would pick the Citadel, but as I said before, it depends on what college experience you really want.

p.s. if you want to play football, NG does not have a football team.

as I frequently remind folks, The Citadel has more commissioning slots so more chance of a commission and better scholarship opportunities. Also as anyone who has served in the military knows where you went to school does make a difference, a degree from The Citadel will carry you much farther and higher than one from NG
