I'm curious whether or not anyone else in CAP -- the USAF Auxiliary -- has applied for the Class of 2017 and/or has received an appointment, particularly in Ohio Wing? I am a C/MSgt and the First Sergeant for my squadron and I've received a nomination from Senator Brown but am still waiting on hearing anything on receiving an appointment! Let me know!

    Willo and CAS,

Nice to see some other cadets on the forum. Contrary to my username, I am a C/2d Lt. in Florida Wing. I am my squadron's Cadet Deputy Commander, Color Guard OIC (I have Color Guard Commander for the past three years) and primary CAC rep. Still waiting on my end too

Maybe something will come through Thursday as that would be a week since the last Academy Board :thumb:.

Any other CAP cadets? Let's keep this thread going.

I was :) now a former CAP cadet, USAFA grad, but my purpose here is just a quick word of caution in case no one has mentioned it.

If/when you arrive for BCT, do not advertise or even mention your CAP experience. It will only end badly. The only way for your cadre or any other basics to find out that you were in CAP should be if THEY ASK YOU DIRECTLY, then of course you should tell the truth. Otherwise, you WILL come off as a know it all (even if you don't mean to). Just keep your knowledge to yourself (and of course use it to help your classmates when you can) and know that CAP does not equal USAFA or USAF and "but in CAP we..." should never cross your mind. Good luck to you at the start of your journey.

Thank you for the warning and the advice sir. For some reason I think I may have heard something to that effect before, but the exact reasoning hadn't been explained. I had assumed that if one let it be known that they were a CAP cadet they would gain unwanted attention from the cadre.

I joined CAP suuuper late so I'm only a C/SrA from FLWG, but it's been one of the best experiences of my senior year for sure-- something to look forward to each week.

And yes, thank you USAFA10s for the advice! Even while humble, I can imagine it'd be easy to seem like a know-it-all if you wanna help your squadmates by saying "Oh lemme show you how to do this; In CAP we did ____"

Been in CAP since sophomore year, currently in 'Advisor'/'Mentor' position (we all know what that means :shake: and passed CC on to next in line a month ago )

Thank you for the advice USAFA10S!

Same advice can be given to those who were in JrROTC.

I'm a sergeant and enjoy being in CAP. Started late but learned a lot of things that might be relevant to USAFA. Definitely will not advertise that I know drill or prior knowledge of military courtesies because I'm going to have to learn with my fellow basics how USAFA does it. Nobody likes a "know it all".
    Thanks for the heads up.

Well, I wasn't accepted. :frown: BUT, I am going to Virginia Military Institute to be in the Rat Mass of 2013+4. And I will be staying active via skype with my home squadron in Ohio, and doing AFROTC while I am at VMI. I hope to reapply this coming year and be accepted this time!

Just keep doing your best and push as hard as you can. You'll get what is right for you. Congrats on VMI.
