Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

Pima has taught me well....I started this process (joining the forum) a month or so ago with no military background and even LESS of an understanding of the SA's. I even have some lingo down-pat now! And more than that, I know that if DS gets the dreaded TWE, I will rejoice that he has a viable Plan B that will enable him to pursue that brass ring. Now, back to American Pickers! :) I love those guys!

Vamom-
If he is like most scouts I have had the pleasure to know (especially Eagles), it is hardly his last meeting. As far as remaining registered, he can always keep registered as an adult leader as long as it is done with the understanding he will help when he comes home and as time permits. He can also keep a registration as a Venturing member until 21. One of my "boys" got his Eagle, joined Venturing, and is now a Ranger in Afghanistan. He still attends activities when he comes home and the troop and crew sends him care packages for his unit every 3 months (last shipment was well over 100 pounds and was given to everyone in his unit....they all know us well by now...)

Thank you for that! I guess I was speaking of my own (selfish) feeling....how every Monday night we eat dinner early and it revolves around Scouts. How my husband and son have done so many great trips together, including Philmont, fly fishing, you name it. How my son sat right behind "W" at church when his troop was in DC. How he slept on the ship at Ft. Sumpter....that kind of stuff. The kind of stuff that moms love to see their boys doing while growing up into young men. sniff sniff!

I stayed active in my troop until the day I turned 18 myself. Granted I was too busy to do an Eagle project (something I regret now). I did enjoy the many years spent with such great friends. One of which I swear will be president one day! =P He's currently a PolySci major at Harvard! Anyway, all the things done in scouts will always hold a special place in my heart. Also, the skills learned in scouts came in really handy when it came time for basic training. I can't speak for the basic training we will go through at the academy, for I have not experienced that yet. However, enlisted basic training kind of reminded me of a REALLY long summer camp that they yell at you during. xD Just thinking about that helped me get through it. =P

Yup, thats now my quote of the day :thumb:. Thanks for the philosophical insight!

Seriously though, I'm a nervous wreck. For better or for worse its going to be over in a week or two... Still no call from Senator Snowe or Rep. Pingree but I'm trying to stay positive. A close friend of mine was accepted into USNA and he had the same nominators and never revived any advanced notice of appointment, so for now I'm holding onto that as my glimmer of hope. Friday can't come soon enough!

If he is fortunate enough to have a son involved in scouts when he is older, it will warm your heart even more. My parents really enjoyed watching me become a scout leader for my own sons. I do have to say that as good as it was for me the first time, the second go through is much more rewarding.:thumb:

No matter the situation, Friday can never come soon enough! =P

MAINEiac....you have made me feel like Yogi Berra! In other news...DS, upon his return from the final scout meeting tonite, left my laptop at the church. Yep, that's right , the one he SWORE he would not leave because it is my WORK laptop. Yep, that's right. The one he did the powerpoint on because it had a better screen. Yep, the one that, hopefully, will meander its way back to me tomorrow. Oh for cripes sake....I would have busted his arse for this a year ago. Tonite? "That's ok! Just go to bed and get your rest".. WTH????

My mom would probably let me off easy with cleaning my room if I wasn't sitting on my Eagle Project for the past month
My 18th is in June, I have time... (I KNOW, I KNOW, I'M KIDDING)

In stalking news though, definitely ready to get my status/mail stalking on at the end of this week. I only have a Presidential Nom, so I'm not expecting a call. So I'm guessing I'll find out the end of some week after the courtesy period for MOCs to call. I'm camping with friends this weekend though . I'll have to keep my phone alive!

I seem awfully confident tonight, usually I don't get my hopes up too much, but seeing the appointment thread flare up got me excited.

The journey

How my husband and son have done so many great trips together, including Philmont, fly fishing, you name it. How my son sat right behind "W" at church when his troop was in DC. How he slept on the ship at Ft. Sumpter....that kind of stuff. The kind of stuff that moms love to see their boys doing while growing up into young men. sniff sniff!

OK now I'm getting misty-eyed... looking back on our son's journey to this point. He was also heavily involved in scouts - eagled out in February. We are relishing every meal with him now, every discussion, every afternoon that turns into a great family time... He's sensing it too. Doesn't have an appointment yet but, we all know he'll be gone somewhere very soon.

As anxious as we all are to receive word from the AFA, I can't lie... I'm shedding a few tears, pulling those pre-school projects out of the Lane trunk...

RyWalk,I'm pulling for you, son. And get your Eagle done! LOL My son....he will be the end of me....the LAST POSSIBLE NIGHT he does Scoutmaster Review. Lord help me! ;)

Oh how I know how you feel! I pulled out a Santa face this Christmas (complete with glued on cotton balls for eyebrows!) that had a "Letter to Santa" written on the "face" of Santa from third grade. "Dear Santa...for this Christmas, I want my mom to be really happy so can you bring her a gold ring? Have a holly jolly Christmas! Love, Connor".. OMG...tears galore! I just can't remember if I got the ring or not! LOL But DD accused DS: "BROWN NOSER"! haha!

Nervous wreck. rollercoaster ride for over a year. website says disqualified, then Academy calls last week for DS to redo CFA, then Academy today calls tells DS website updated with new CFA scores, and that letters are going out today and tomorrow.
been reading threads for weeks now, just joined the madness, what does it all mean?
This is worse than waiting for officer promotion results to come out. Got my fingers and toes crossed for all of us

Wow...you really HAVE been on the coaster! Hoping that you , along with the rest of us, get the "call" or BFE! Meanwhile, hang out here with the Stalker Club. Misery loves company!

I'm so happy for ALL that did get that phone call yesterday!!!! How exciting for all of you. Also, I'm happy to see things are moving along:biggrin:

We have not heard anything here. Ds hopes to hear something soon.
My husband and I had a long chat with DS last week about his Plan C- DS has applied to 2 SA's. DS is very excited about plan C if A& B do not come this year.
So....... I sent ds' deposit in to plan C... premature? Perhaps.. Insurance policy? I think so!

Good luck and best wishes to all who are waiting! You are all wonderful young people and deserve this!

Reading this thread and hearing about all you guys getting calls and such is almost exciting as actually receiving my appointment! Congratulations to everyone who has heard positive things. As rangermom said, stay positive about alternate plans. They were made for a reason! There is always next year to reapply.

We did the same, Rangermom. $400 is a miniscule amount to have Plan B nailed down. I just need to find out if I'm going to be a Hokie or a Falcon!

Good morning everybody!
It is 8:30AM in TN and another hopeful day...
I'm at work and already satlking this site...trying to keep up with you guys and who else will hear something today.
I drove to work today (35min commute) and decided to spend some time writting an encouragement note for those who do not get in (that could my DS as well)...and will post in April. I'm just concerned about people's emotions and I wanted to ask us parents to continue to encourage our "eternal babies" that everything will be ok with a yes or a no. They are all fabulous kids...just the fact that they are a "candidate" that means a lot...but honestly their hearts is the most important thing to me. We can be so many things, have so many titles, achievements...but in the end what is in our hearts mean the most. I also want to say "thank you" for you moms and dads just in case you haven't heard that yet. Your child is where they are today because of your commitment to raise them well :thumb:
Well done.
Praying for a happy day to all of you!

Great message to read as I start my day (well, ok, my day started at 5:30 but that's another story for anothe forum! Sick hubby so THE WORLD HAS STOPPED! (sorry for the jab if you are a dad reading this!). Oh, especially if you are my HUSBAND reading this! Just kidding honey! You really ARE a good patient, really! haha Anyway, I digress. I second YMG.....I feel just as happy for my stalker club friends as I will be for DS if he gets ths BFE. And my question continues to go unaswered as of yet...will we "soar like a falcon" or "do whatever it is that Hokie Birds do"....I'm afraid to ask!

Well I guess this is good bye to the mailbox stalkers club. My DD received the phone call yesterday from her congressman! Being from Colorado, we knew the competition to get into the USAFA would be difficult, but she did it! I'm crying as I write this. Good luck to all of you and we will see you on I-day! God speed, everyone. One last thing - thank you for all of your support as I have been mostly stalking but sometimes posting to this thread. All of your words to one another has been so helpful
