Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

OK....(just wishful thinking here...)..today would be a great day to get a BFE. DS has his first volleyball game of the season this afternoon and was named team captain earlier this week (not bad considering at 6'0" he is the 4th shortest member of the team). It would cap off what already is a big day....

Therapist speaking.

"One thing is to understand, the military life is not only about what you know, but timing.

I hope as the TWEs come out that some of you think of this story and understand, it was nothing more than timing and what the AF needed now."

This is very comforting...I don't know you "Pima" but after reading some of your posts it seems like u know a lot about AFA :)
Thank you for reminiding me about "timing"...that is so true.

Pima is what separates us from the animals......

We've been experiencing much of the same insanity as all of you! My freshman (HS) DS, re-programmed the caller ID feature on our home phones to display "US Air Force Academy" when he calls from his cell. Imagine the excitement to answer the phone thinking it's the USAFA when it's DS2 verifying baseball practice is over @ 6:30 and we're on carpooling duty. Soy sauce on the waffles....he's going to be lucky if that's all I do to him when he gets home! :hammer:

You should have answered "Air Force Academy! How may I help you?" Oh, if you'd only known it was your DS calling. He would have been PERPLEXED to say the least! I like some good turnabout, as the saying assures me that it is "fair play" !

Good luck at the mailboxes today everyone!
I am going to go run 18 miles in the rain and then check ours. Thinking of the mail with every stride or should I say old lady shuffle. lol

Funny my son has yet to check mailbox or call home during the day. I guess I am glad that he is living in the moment in his senior year. At first this worried me but now after knowing how obsessed this whole waiting has made me, I am kind of glad that he is distracted with school and sports. You know what they say...."what you do not worry about someone else will". Usually that someone is your mama!

AAAA MENNNN!!! It is ALWAYS mama! :) And as I posted a few days ago, the only interest my DS had in the mailbox was on Tuesday as he was trolling for birthday cards with BFC's in them (this is not on the acronym list: Big Fat Check) ! I will share that our gift to him on his 18th was his first flight lesson/instruction. He is eager to set it up. I figure hey, he's my FAVORITE son! Well, the only one but still...... Sushi and a flight lesson, along with a clear message: save your money for the next one! Don't cash those BFC's...deposit them! Anyway, I'm losing my mind in case anyone wondered.

I can assure you that some (at least one) dads worry, too!

All of you will be me next yr. Your experience will help the future candidates.

The beauty of the military is that we are family we selected.

Whatever occurs for your own child, remember the only way to defend this country is to embrace each other and act like a family member.

Family members are honest and as much as it hurts what they say, they do it from a place of love. That is what we do here.

I can assure you that some (at least one) dads worry, too!

Look at you dads trying to hone in on our territory! I'm only kidding....I see what my husband does every day when he walks in the door: straight to the mail pile and shuffle shuffle shuffle. As IF he would not have heard us screaming all the way downtown! haha! Dads are awesome....we could NOT have had these kids without 'em! :thumb:

True confessions to you, my new best friends: my husband has this forum that he has been a member of for several years. He looks at it every evening. The topic is fascinating: WATCHES. Yep, watches. So I AlWAYS mock him when I see him on it, especially if he is commenting on a thread. "Oh, are you finding out what time it is in Paris? " etc Real Smart A** kind of stuff. I felt myself above the land of forums and thread and such. REALLY?

mail came...mail left...nothing...BUT the mail woman has our cell phone number now...she will be stalking the mail truck for us ...hahahahahaa:biggrin:

same here hopefully when i get home froms chool ill find the BFE... does anyone know how many appts were already sent out and rejected??

Guissepe, from what I have been reading, 400 were mailed out Tuesday afternoon per the USAFA Admissions facebook. That of course, does not include appointments that have been going out since last Fall (smaller number). As for rejections, I believe there will be no way of determining that nor do I ever expect the Academy to divulge that. Good luck to you! Report in if you get good news! Our mail comes in a few hours. Till then, "Reporter on the Beat" is back to work and having some iced tea!

Okay, so from work I asked my spring-breaking, footloose and fancy free, "headin' for the beach with the guys" potential AFA cadet if he checked the mailbox and he said......"Huh?". Oh brother

VaMom reporting in:
Subject: Mailbox Stalk
Goal: BFE
Outcome: Just a BFC....as in anothe BIG FAT CHECK in a birthday card from Great Aunt Crazy. And THAT, my friends, is the ONLY reason that DS retrieved the mail. I feel your pain, MikeR!

OH,by the way. The Naval Stalkers have stalked US! Yep, jealousy prevails over on the USNA stalker forum. See comment #41. "ahem".........

Ive got to admit, the closer we get to that unknown day the more ridicules this thread gets, and the more crazy I get!!!! hopefully any day now!!! Does anyone know when the statuses will be updated? Im thinking maybe tomorrow because supposedly the review board met last Friday and they give the congressmen a week to tell their nominees personally, but I'm just spit balling here haha.

Listen to this one!!!!
Hubby just called and said..."I checked the caller ID and Congressman called!!!" So I screamed "call him back call him back"...my heart was pounding and trying to get out of my chest...thank goodness the EKG machine is right next to my door...
Hubby reports back " Oh it was to tell us that they sent a request to the embassy in Brazil for our niece's visa".
Lord have mercy on this daughter of yours...I will no longer pray for patience...!!!

My heavens.........my chest is still hurting...

ymg...that's the most heartbreaking story on this thread. OMG!

MAINEiac..I think you're on to something...I agree, the MOCs were probably notified late Friday afternoon. Many got calls on Monday.....the Admissions people posted on Facebook that around 400 appointments went out the door on Tuesday. Depending on what part of the country people live in, it's got to be anytime between Friday and Monday that BFEs arrive
