Cool Mom of USAFA Candidate 2015
Good morning all! I just checked our mailbox and NO BFE, NO TWE, nothing nada zip... We are in Southern California and I am just wondering what is taking so long!!! Did anyone else from So. Cal hear?!

Anyway, no call from the MOC, no change in the status online (Candidate, Complete), same old same-o... And the praying and waiting continues, I hope not for much longer!

Also, DS called the counselor at USAFA yesterday and all she said was to wait for the mail for him. She did not want to give him any information, just to wait for it in the mail...

Does this mean that he is in the "qualified but no vacancy" group?

To Tailwind Angel and VAMOM, you guys inspire me every day!!! Thank you for all your posts!

Attybella: From So. Cal. also - Some counselors are telling those who call that they are qualified - NV, and some are not. It's possible that you're still in the running, however, we were told that those letters (QNV) were being mailed this Friday.

i'm in the sme boat, called my ALO and he wouldnt give me any info except to say they HAD made a decision but HAD NOT mailed it out yet. what????

Well, just updating to say that I finally got through to my son's counselor and told her that he'd sent in his declination yesterday and that I was hoping that by letting her know that it might keep someone else in the running.

She did say that they were continuing to send out some appointments when others were turned down and it "depended on the situation" and that it wasn't true that there would be no additional appointments. She also said she'd make a note of it and let the committee know. Hope it helps!

I will say though that she seemed quite perplexed by my call. She was like "so you're trying to find out if he'll get an appointment" and I said no, he had one and had declined it, and she asked "so now he doesn't want to decline?" and I said no, he DID want to decline but we just wanted to give her a heads up so hopefully someone else could get it. Then she asked "So WHY does he want to decline? Is he going somewhere else?" Guessing this phone call was a bit out of the ordinary from the ones she's gotten in the past few days!

They do exit reviews. Guessing that why she asked.

The case by case goes back to looking at how they were going to be charged.

DD still no news. My guess she is going to get the TWE at this point. It's all good. She just received her flight reservations from a school in the East. They already accepted her into their BioMed Engineering program, so we are hopeful it is for another scholarship. Yes, she changed her plans from Aero to BioMed with this school. So many choices! :thumb:

Gotaplay2, there are prep schools all over the USA that take candidates with all kinds of GPAs and SAT's. There is the prep school assoc. with that Academy(MAPS for Westpoint, NAPS for Naval Academy etc) and then there are the prep schools that are independent of THE Academy but the Foundations can offer scholarships to candidates they want to sponsor.( Our Navy BGO called them Foundation Schools) I've read on these forums people saying only candidates with low GPA's and low SAT's are sponsored but I have met some at my son's prep who were sponsored and were not low at all. It was kind of a "holding spot" for them to continue with their college coarses but at the same time almost guaranteed an "in" as long as there are no "C" grades and provided they receive a nomination from MOC or ? I don't know the stats on what percentage are highly qualified but there are some being sponsored. Also, you don't have to be sponsored to attend one of these independent prep schools if you have the money to pay your own way, (you are called a free agent) Greystone Prepatory school at Schreiner University has Foundation sponsored students from Army and Navy, and are currently being visited by AirForce so maybe next year there will be some Air Force candidates attending also. It is the only prep school that is on a university campus, too. Free agents, however, are not guaranteed a "spot" like foundation candiates. They have to compete with the other college applicants. Prep schools are great for many reasons, but one is that all the kids attending are motivated and have the same strong passion, to be accepted to a SA. They are like a team and they support one another! I would think ROTC would be similar in that also.

You know it's getting bad when...

you go to take a drink from your glass bottle of Snapple and end up with the large bottle opening well below your mouth. Fortunately I figured it out before I tipped it back!

Please Academy Gods just put us out of our misery one way or the other.

Heavy sigh! No BFE, no TWE, no online status change, a tight-lipped AFA counselor, and........another day of waiting. Poor DS had a moment by the mailbox, though. He said a envelope came for him, not TW but not BF either, from the USAF!!! Opened it and it was medical board saying he was qualified for both USAFA and for his ROTC scholarship. Whew!

2 calls and BFE!

After weeks of lurking near the mailbox here in sunny South Florida our DS got a call last week from our Senator's office and a day later our Congressman himself called to tell him about his Appointment. Seems the mailbox hangout was the wrong place to be! Should have been sitting around the phone! He only got the BFE yesterday!

So he now has Appointments to the USMMA and USAFA. Now waiting for news from the USNA and the USCGA to make a final decision.

Boy are we two proud parents!!!!!!!!!!
But you probably can't tell, huh???

Best of luck to everyone!
These kids have all worked very hard for this.

Thanks to everyone for all the information you have all shared so wonderfully here. It made this procedure much less stressful.

How do you think the choice will be made? How do you choose one over the other, when there both excellent? Wouldn't it be eaiser if there were only one choice?

really tough choices

Our son certainly realizes that no matter what, it is a tough choice. But what a wonderful choice to have to make!!

He was always most interested in the USAFA and the USNA so if no Appointment arrives from the USNA the decision is pretty much made. The USMMA offers some advantages and he knows that too so it is still in the running...

So yes, the decision is already difficult for him. More so if he is offered the USNA.
Less choices might be easier but having the chance to make the choice is part of the experience I guess....

To be honest, this is the mailbox stalkers club, not the decision club. It's not that I am not happy for your son or anything, it just that we simply don't relate to you right now. People on here are freakin' out because the AFA is our number choice, and we'd do ANYTHING to get there. To us, your son's choice is quite clear, go to the USAFA. Otherwise, I think you should probably make a new thread, or join the stalkers club on the USNA site.

Otter, You're in a tough place. All of us can see that, and I feel for you. Best thing you can do is to keep some perspective and see how many truly talented and successful people are faced with challenges or disappointments and end up succeeding wildly.

Thanks FalconFamily, No one from Washington is hearing anything, and our Counselors aren't saying anything. There is alot of anxiety up here in Washington State, there are no BFE's and no TWE's. We congratulate everyone who has recieved a BFE, but you have to understand we are almost ready to pop (otter style)!

Dear Otterpop,

I was simply responding to a question from USMA 2015 asked after I did post our "mailbox stalking" story.

Sorry it bothered you so much.
