    I know there's one for parents, but is there one for students?

    I've been trying to find one; no success.

    There has been talk on previous threads about starting a FB page. The issue is that there is not enough anonymity of such pages. BCT cadre research facebook and give extra attention to some people (1 said that they are going to be the first person on Mars). True Story. I'm not sure that being in contact with others prior to BCT is necessary as you probably won't be in the same flight during BCT anyway. You will be without cell phones, internet, FB, twitter, etc. during most of BCT so you are dependent on the others in your squadron for support. Go ahead and start one if you must. Just be careful what you post.

    Yes there is a United States Air Force Academy Class Of 2016 page started just recently by two class of 2016 appointees. Simply log on to Facebook and search pages for "United States Air Force Academy Class of 2016", click to like the page, and feel free to post and interact with other appointees. We are all very excited to meet one another so let others know as well.

    Yrs and yrs ago, before it was FB, it was Myspace. I recall back in 07, there was a doolie who stood by a plane on a stick, and posted my next plane. They made a youtube sensation out of him. I am not sure if he also did a slam to women in the AF or it was another poster, but they had a female cadet berate him on the bus.

    The real biggie was back @08 when the appointees on there and sites like Collegeconfidential.com started trash talking.

    I will never forget there was a poster, a twin that trashed talked on the USMA forum over there. He believed he couldn't be known. Posters came back and said thank you very much, do you think we are stupid? They linked all of his posts and it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who he was.

    ~~~ Asian Male
    ~~~ Identical Twin Brother accepted and going
    ~~~ NY district 123
    The poster died in his tracks, because they reminded him that there weren't too many twin Asian males from NY, and because he "brought it on" his brother may have to pay the price.
    The running joke was get a tee shirt that said "It was ME" so his brother, who was not a poster didn't have endure the wrath of the cadets because of his attitude. He actually went on and said my 1st name is ....
    FB is great, and it is a great idea, but if a mob mentality starts and thromping on chests of "I AM GOD" than remove yourself immediately.
    Your goal is to not be noticed on the bus ride.
    It is not hazing. I do not want anyone to believe it is, but appointees sometimes get a little too cocky, and it is the job of cadets at BCT to remind them where their place is in that environment.
    The FB issue has been on multiple threads, and I get you want to meet people prior, but honestly, there is no guarantee that anyone you meet on FB will be in your squadron.
    You would be just as well off here starting a thread for appointees.
    I have to say the saddest thing is that after Hornet, Raimius, and Eagle (2010) graduated the cadets going out to dinner with appointees has disappeared. The AFA cadets on this site use to meet up at restaurants with appointees from this site. They did it @ this time of the yr. on a Saturday night. I think they probably had @ 20 people each time, and they had multiple weekends. It allowed appointees, parents of appointees and cadets to bond.
    It was not an AFA thing, it was an SAF thing.
    btw, if you guys are interested in doing some kind of dinner/get together for all the 2016 folks I'd be willing to help ya'll out. I did one for our class and I still know many of the people I met there.
    Thanks...:confused: For the dinner thing, was it for the appointees in your state/local area?
    That is entirely up to the class of 2016. Brian said he'd help, but a 2016er should organize it.
    The dinners were really great, but they more or less went away when USAFA did away with the formal Orientation. That was a time in April when everyone was in the Springs at the same time, and the dinners were usually held on the Sunday night before Orientation began. Last year bsa07eagle helped organize a small dinner for some of the candidates who were going to visit USAFA on their own in the Spring. The dinners were really a wonderful way to meet people, and even though the chances are small that they will be in your freshman squadron, there are still connections that remain. My son still keeps in touch with Potterfan, PETKO, and Redhead89 (see how many remember those posters.....if you do, you're an old-timer like me!)
    Stealth,
    You know you are old when only a few of us remember Potterfan! I use to LMAO over the stories of how she had to be escorted on windy day, less she would fly away!
    I hope you do use FB to create a plan like having a dinner, many appointees come in early, so you may want to do it at that time.
    It is also great because the parents that are posters here can put a face with a name too. There will be many threads in July when they go silent for BCT, and you will be happy to hear any news from any one regarding anything.
    I don't want to get this thread off track, but I'll give a brief summary and if you guys want to get something going yourselves send me a PM or get a thread running on the subject.
    The year I did the dinner we still had orientation over three weekends in April. Since I lived in town I organized a dinner for each of the three weekends. Obviously that isn't possible anymore since orientation isn't happening but I think last year they had a dinner the night before I-day that had a pretty good turn out. Ya'll could probably do something like that.
    Later,
    -Brian
    Trolling
    Come on now. *breathe in* *breathe out* The intentions were, and are great, and there are current cadets that want to help, but then there's always that set that, well, you know... If you are a member of the c/o 2016 FB page, please send me a PM on what you want to see happen. Advice is one thing, but the explicit language is way past the line.
    Alright, 2016, here's the deal:
    For the love of God do NOT join this group. And if you do, do NOT write something stupid, ie:
    - insinuating that you are the best class to come through (thank you, Derrin Gelston, you've just ruined your first couple... months) because until you make it to graduation... you aren't
    - asking ridiculous questions (like personal hygiene stuff, come on girls, the internet is PUBLIC)
    We can all see this, and we all have. There is a central page of facebook we all go on constantly, and people have been posting screen shots of your page for the last few days.
    This sounds awful, and it's a little tough love, but as a 4-Dig who just went through this, I can tell you that you are just adding fuel to the fire of the BCT Cadre who cannot WAIT to meet you now.
    On the other hand, congrats on getting in! I remember that feeling and there was nothing like it in the world. Don't quit, push through, and you're in for the ride of your life!
    Watch your arrogance about your accomplishments. An appointment means nothing more than you have the chance to attend basic training, nothing more. If you make it that far, great, you have yet to make it to basic, much more complete it.
    There is no such thing as the best class, or best person here. We all debate our class colors/exemplars/etc, but at the end of the day that's all we do. When it comes down to it I'm still in class with 4 degs, 3 degs, 2 degs, and firsties. And, if I make it that far, I will be all of the above and hopefully you will be there as well. Until then, be humble or be humbled. Your entire life (especially in the military) will be spent getting to the top of the bottom. When you graduate here, you will be the lowest of the officers. Even at the top you will still be at the bottom of something else. You may be at the top for 2 more months, but after that you will spend an entire year being the very lowest of this place and the process keeps repeating.
    As for basic, the cadre aren't looking for dirt on you (I'm too busy trying not to get kicked out and survive this place, as you will be shortly, to waste time doing such things), we are observing the dumb kids that dig up their own dirt and throw it in our faces. If you post stupid stuff anywhere and it ends up on My Life Is Cadet (like it did today) we don't have to try and find it, you gave it to us and we are more than happy to remember the name an arrogant person that bragged about themselves over the rest of their class. We will find that person and break them and everyone with them.
    -Later
    Brian
