Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Duh! of course you are right. All this mailbox stalking is killing my brain cells.

Preppies need nominations too. Hard to believe that a single MOC got two Direct appointments and two appointments from the Prep School, though. I mean, do the math. There are 535 MOCs. If Every MOC got two appointments, that would be more than the class is allowed to be this year (1070 vs. 1050 allowed). I am sure that each MOC will get one appointment, but FOUR? I just think that is a little unusual.

That was my concern too. I'm not sure how my DS has a chance if he is on the same nomination list with all of that going on! Pretty heartbreaking to see. However, I don't know if the athletic appointments got charged to our MOC or not, I just know they are on the nomination list with DS. Also, I don't know if the nominated USAFA candidates currently at the Prep School got an appointment or not. Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. I didn't say he got four appointments.

I did jump to erroneous conclusions. My fault entirely. I apologize, this waiting and trying to figure out things and read between the lines and all that is just too nerve frazzling. I think my hair will go full gray this month, if I don't pull it all out first, that is.

I do think that the Preppies have a very high chance of getting appointments however.

From my understanding... I spoke with our MOC academy contact personally on the phone yesterday. She told me the appointment had been charged to DS's MOC and the appointee was an athlete. So at least in our case - Yes, the athletic appointee was charged to our MOC.

If you feel comfortable - call your MOC office, ask for the academy contact. I did not ask specific's - name of the appointee, etc. However she asked my name, my son's name and looked at his file and voluntarily told me - he was very competitive and if he wished to re-apply she would be happy to have him on their slate again next year. And not to give up hope just yet - sometimes they get more appointments (I don't know if she meant they had another slot on their slate, or if sometimes their nominees get picked from the national pool). I'd hope that a rep from the MOC's office wouldn't just "blow smoke" to make me feel better.

We have since then learned that DS should have at least applied for Presidential nomination (which we did not, with all involved how did that slip through the cracks? - we were told incorrect information that DH needed 20 yrs AD to be qualified for DS to be able to apply for Pres Nom. - just heartbreaking I tell you.)

We have not once talked with RD - since really I don't even know what sort of valid questions I have for him at this point.

2b, Romad, and all you other fellow stalkers. Thanks for the support. I've decided to go home for lunch (30 miles). I won't have time to eat lunch, but I can ambush the mailman...or is that too much? :screwy:

Ha ha, sounds exactly like something I would do. But you have to remember, I am (or I should say, have become) extremely OCD about this whole thing......

I know I just need to relax and let it flow.......

It's pretty funny and at times like this I wish there was just a "like" button. If I find something happy in my mailbox and my dh is at school, I plan on hunting him down to give it to him... LOL (we live less than 1 mile from the HS).

:topic:Today is my day off and clearly I have too much time on my hands... need to step away from the computer and go wash my hair (only my hair because somehow DH forgot to mention we have no hot water today - found that out only AFTER I jumped into the COLD shower - LOL)

If the mailman is empty handed and you going to insist on going down to the mail center to look for yourself?

It's good to know that I'm not the only OCD person on here...BTW, I think that recruited atheletes are sometimes charged to the superintendent so that a MoC nomination will free up room for a candidate. That would probably involve the MoC getting in touch with USAFA and pushing it. Is that possible?

cgchris,

Your child being a 2nd timer with 2 noms and in AFROTC would be someone I would say have hope.

AFA loves 2nd timers because it shows true commitment. That being stated his PAR is still going to be an issue, so if it is low it will hurt.

Today is the real knot in the stomach day because it is Friday.

Good luck to you all.

Again my lack of knowledge gets me, I have no idea what the "superintendent" is. And I really hate to be bothersome to these people... I would hope that the MOC knows i'm anxious and maybe they'll do what they can on their end without us being down their throat? Ugh... but i'll mention it to his ALO. Thx.

I saw your posts yesterday and my thoughts are with you! I guess we'll know when we know. I called the parents club president to ask what she thought about it. She said that because we live in a competitive area with strong candidates they sometimes give the unused noms from other areas to our MOCs (or something to that effect). It's as clear as mud! Haha!

All the best to those of you that have received your BFE's! Congratulations!

I know our district has about three vacancies to fill for USAFA because there were no noms submitted by our MOC last year due to taking office beyond the deadline (straight from our local rep). That means that if there are 10 noms per vacancy available- if I read the guide correctly- and we had very few applications for noms from our district this year -soooooo, that means there might be 20-25 noms from our district alone available

Best

Don't prepsters get their nominations from the Secretary of the Air Force? At least that's how it's done for USNA.
Cheers...

Going "Reverse Postal" now are we?

The pressure - The PRESSURE!!!!! :yllol:

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info! We're keeping the faith.

No problem! I understand completely! I keep saying my head is going to pop off because of all of the pressure! Hehe :shake:

Waiting for the news is really nerve racking. However, it won't be long now. DS is taking it well, just working on his flying and preparing for his Private Pilot oral exam in about two weeks. Hang in there...stay busy. News will be here sooner than you think.

Pima, our DS's PAR should be excellent. He graduated 6th out of 523, 3.93 unweighted GPA, ACT scores of 29 English, 29 Reading, 34 Math, 35 Science. Not sure if there is anything else included in the PAR. We spoke to his Academy counselor when he did not get in last year and she said he was fully qualified and could not have improved anything to get in. I think the reduced class size from last year hurt him. We never heard who got the appointment from our MOC last year, we just hope it was a college freshman. Our whole family was crushed when he didn't get in and we have stayed off this forum until just recently. He is happy where he is at now so if the appointment doesn't come he will be fine. He will still become an officer in the US Air Force. Oh and his 1st term college GPA is 3.6 at a well respected engineering school. Thanks for your thoughts.

My DS is officially accepted to the USAFA!

I wrote yesterday that my DS received his BFE yesterday. Today, we received the greatest news, which is that his medical waiver has been granted.
Thank you Lord! We are so happy that we cannot find the words to say how grateful and excited our entire family is today. Since my DS left for school before the news about the medical waiver being granted, we went to his high school with 12 balloons and the vice-principal entered his classroom with my husband and me to announce my son's official appointment to the USAFA. My son was grinning from ear to ear, and it was a day we will always cherish and remember. Thank you for your prayers. Your sons and daughters will continue to be in our prayers as we know how important this decision is for all of the wonderful candidates.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Congrats! I know you've been stressing over the waiver for a while. Doing the happy dance for you in IL. :jump1::jump1::jump1:

For all of you mailbox stalkers, I feel your pain and anxiety! Just remember that there is usually a mass mailing of BFE's the third week in March so there is still lots of time. My son had 4 nominations in 2004 and didn't hear until the 23 of March that he had received an appointment. I'm sitting on pins and needles today because he had his check ride for Aircraft Commander today...as you can see this is just the beginning......
