Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Don't get too wound up. It was late March last year before most of the Class of 2015 got notified. Even then there were notices going out after April.

bsa07eagle...Just curious. I assume from your moniker that you are an Eagle Scout. Is there any club or "fraternity" for Eagle Scouts at the Academy? And if there is, do y'all meet or do things together?

Amen sister! I'm in the *same* exact place as you... While it weighs heavy on my heart - I have not given up all hope and neither should you!

Thank you CristalLee! I hope I will have the same perseverance as you! You are very kind to encourage others. I hope I get to meet you some day.

Last year when my daughter received the phone call from the MOC announcing her appointment, it was during the last week of March - her Spring Break! I think the majority of appointments came out then. Her current roommate didn't get appointed until May!

BTW... There's quite a few acronyms on this and most other threads. The military talks its own language. If you haven't found it yet there is an acronym thread. If you click on "United States of America Service Academy Forums" at the top left of your page, then scroll to the bottom of the new page you'll find the acronym thread. You'll get a laugh out of a few of them.

Thank you for letting us know this! This is very useful information.

Realistically, I think this schedule is what most of us "stalkers" should expect. Most appointments won't be sent out until the last week of March, first week of April, and some won't be sent out until the end of May!!

Our MOC has given out ten unranked USAFA nominations. I have discovered through his recent press release that two of them already have appointments as recruited athletes and two others are in the prep school. It looks like the window is closing for DS pretty quickly. I'm so nervous for him, I'm starting to lose sleep. Is it still possible for him to get an appointment in such a competitive area and with that many slots already used up?

Inhale...1...2...3..., Exhale...1...2...3..., again, Inhale...1...2...3..., Exhale...1...2...3...You get the picture.

Thanks for being there supporter/stalker friends!!
I take it you are in Sam Johnson's district as well?

Zoomie, my understanding is that they will not necessarily use the MOC's allotment for recruited athletes - there is a separate pool of nominations they can typically use. Prep school does not count. So the MOC's nominee should not have been used yet. I also heard that the bulk of the appointments will start going out the last week of March, and that there will be spurts of activity as the Academy carefully doles out what are very precious appointments. It was so last year and it is even more so this year.

Thank you! That's good to hear! We are still hoping for the best.

Question about USAFA Prep School

Does anyone know, Does the candidate first get a TWE, and then later get a letter of appointment/acceptance to the USAFA Prep School? or Does the candidate first get notified that he/she's been accepted to the Prep School (as opposed to getting a BFE for USAFA or a TWE that they're not going to USAFA)? So, is it a two step process? Or does the panel decide at the same time who is going to the academy and who is going to the prep school? Just wondered how many times I have to be a nervous wreck and if I have to continue stalking . . .

Yes...best to you! I know how difficult the wait must be for you. We will know the final outcome soon. DS backup plan is A&M ROTC.
Thanks! Good luck to him! And yes, my plan is UT AFROTC or USMMA. I don't want to decided on USMMA until I hear back from USAFA:)

Things change yr to yr. However, typically they do not get a TWE in the way you are thinking because Falcon Prep is part of the AFA.

People who are new to the system many times misunderstand the prep world.

Use this yr as an example. Let's assume 1350 apptmts will go out, and your child is number 1351. Chances are there will be no prep appointment.

Prep exists to build their academic foundation. It is not the 1st runner up situation. If your child has a 33 ACT/1420 SAT, 3.67 cgpa with 9 APs on a 4.5 scale, Capt of sports, NHS, maxed the CFA, etc., it is unlikely they will get a prep slot. Now if they had a 28 ACT it could be a factor in the process.

Just putting that out there so posters and lurkers understand why some get prep and others don't/

Thank you!

Thank you, USAFAretired 1996! I went to the website and called for more information. The only thing that's been updated is that candidates applying to USAFA don't have to fill out an application to the Falcon Foundation. It's an automatic process. Their website now is http://falconfoundation.org/ if anyone wants more information.

Five prep schools are listed, but they also added Randolph Macon (VA), Kent (CT), and Graystone Shriner (TX). If you are a Falcon Scholarship recipient, you can choose the prep school based on cost and location. The scholarship is $5000.

My son is a Falcon this year at NMMI. Can't say enough good things about the program there or how grateful we are to the Falcon Foundation.

Prep school is such a great opportunity

A additional year of academics and maturity is a huge plus. As a plan B, it is really a great option.
