Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Not necessarily each and every student. It depends on which career you go into. If you need a Top Secret clearance then yes, investigators will talk to your neighbors, past employers, coworkers, friends, friends of friends, teachers, ect. They will flash a badge prior to asking any questions.

What jobs would require a top secret clearance?

I'm having a hard time thinking of an officer's job that wouldn't require a TS at least. Air Force Band maybe?

Base level personnel officer. Because of the expense involved in completing the TS investigation, there is usually only a couple of officers/Senior NCOs that have access. At least that was my experience, a long time ago.

Another thing to keep in mind is that access is given based on need to know and not on rank or position. I had a TS/BI and worked for officers that only had a Secret/NAC. Very common in the personnel world and I would guess in most support AFSCs.

I just joined in and decided to share. We are from North AL and our son received 3 noms (both sens & rep, AL-05). Today I found a press release by Sen Shelby announcing his noms for the Mobile area. There were 2 noms to USAFA. I have been trying to follow this only to determine how many actual noms to USAFA went out for the state. We have already executed plan B and accepted the full tuition scolarship to AU and will be attending camp war eagle (class registrations)...that hurts to type cuz I like to yell RTR (Roll Tide Roll)! If our son does get USAFA we will wait until successful completion of BCT before dropping/withdrawing AU. It is absolutely amazing to watch how calm the boy has been throughout this entire process. From Mar through Aug 30 (package completion) he busted butt and said now I wait. Is it posssible that what I learned as a Marine...Improvise, Adapt and Overcome somehow was instilled in the boy? Best of luck to all for the BFE.

Feel free to correct me, but if you have an AFROTC scholarship, it will become invalid as soon as you step foot in to a service academy, I'm afraid it's an either or situation.

We heard from AFROTC

We haven't heard from the USAFA yet (which is his first choice, of course), but we received some INCREDIBLE news from AFROTC today and I'm so proud of our son that I am about to explode. He got the Type I scholarship!!!! I'm doing back flips over here and bouncing off the walls. I feel so honored to be this kid's mom. I'm sending up praises of thanksgiving to the Lord above. His blessings are abundant. Thank you, Lord for blessing our son with the abilities and talents to earn such a prestigious award. And thank you for blessing our family with this amazing young man who more than anything else wants to serve this country to his fullest capacity. What a beautiful day this is and definitely a good week to have a birthday (mine) !!!!!!!! Woohoo, so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From DS (Raptor): SMNE...but it was exciting for a moment: he did get a BFE from his Plan B @ Texas A&M. He said his eyes lit up...for a second. Still cool, though. He has a Type 7 AFROTC scholarship there.

Congratulations!! Hopefully it will be followed up with an appointment to USAFA!

I feel like I'm jumping the gun, but at this point, I don't mind not getting in, because I know that Admissions will see my name/file again when 1 July rolls around (same for Annapolis and West Point).
I think that (determination) is one of the few things the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program has taught over the past 6 years.
Congrats to everyone who has recieved a BFE!!!:groupwave:

Our plan B is a non AFROTC scholarship, but the Presidential Scholarship (full tuition) awarded by Auburn. He chose this over the Baylor scholarship since he and a couple of friends will just join up with the AU AFROTC when they arrive on campus. We only lose out the $200 deposit if the BFE and successful BCT occurs. You just don't know what can happen at BCT and next thing you know you are medically DQ'ed as a result of an injury. With plan B in place he could still make the fall semester and he keeps his scholarship. Good luck to you!

We've done the same thing for my DS-don't have to accept the scholarship offer from his plan B school until May, but we did go ahead and put in the housing deposit.
