Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

so typically online application status's only change on wednesday's correct?

No. The Academy allows MOCs the opportunity to call Appointees first (some do, some don't) then they mail the BFE. After the BFE is mailed your portal will change. It is not always on a Wednesday. DS's BFE was postmared 3/25/2011 (Friday) and arrived on 3/29/2012 (Tuesday) with the portal changing to "Appointment Offered" the following Thursday. I hope this helps.

Good luck! :thumb:

thank you very much!

I'm much less anxious too

We were relieved when we arrived home (no BFE) but also no TWE! But let me tell you we were nervous going through that whole pile of mail.

DS was awarded a AFROTC scholarship, still don't know what kind - no word/email/phone call/mail on that either. (This was his first board review, he missed the first two). Just knowing this is a huge relief and I feel less "stalkerish" now AND a lot less stressed out.

DS's MOC slot has already been filled by an athlete that was being courted for the last 16 months by USAFA (found this out in press release). So while we remain hopeful, we also remain realistic.

Whatever will we all do once all this "stalking" is over? Will we still be friends? Will we still talk? Will we be lost without each other? (Sorry, trying to add a little humor...)

Have a great day!

Hi CrystalLee, I also feel alot better since the AFROTC letter came and my son's backup plan is firmly in place. We are all very excited about it and feel very blessed. Still hoping for great news from USAFA, but now I also don't feel quite as "stalkerish". It is much easier to breath and I don't feel like I'm falling down that big hill on a roller coaster. :shake:

does anybody know if you can update your application? not that much has changed but I was wondering if I could let them know that I found out I was a state scholar and that I got my private pilots license yesterday :)

I'm not sure it will make a difference this late in the selection process but I thought it might be worth a shot.

I'm unsure about the application (but I'm heavily guessing the answer is no, given that many appointments have already gone out), but congratulations on the PPL!

I got mine two years ago, and have my instrument checkride coming up. :thumb:

Any intention of trying out for the flying team?

Good luck trying out for the flying team.... there are only a couple members and the only way to get on the team is if they really like you.

Well, we went away on Spring Break (you know, to get away from stalking the mailbox for a week) and came back home to find the AFROTC scholarship is secured!:thumb: Wooo Hoooo!!! DS is, of course, still hoping to hear soon from the USAFA, but we are so blessed to have plan B ready to go.:smile::smile:

Congratulations to everyone who also received ROTC scholarship notifications!!!

More stalking to come on Monday when I pick up the mail from the post office...

Quick question. Our area doesn't do more than 1appt. DS got senate and nice letter from congresswoman that she 'would have' nom if he didn't get the senate. Now I'm worried, is this worse? Does he now have higher competition? I thought he had a good chance now I'm worried, ugh chewing fingernails.

An appointment requires only one nom. It doesn't really matter that much who it is from, or even how many you get. What is FAR AND AWAY more important is your DS's total package. In Texas it is much the same as you describe. Only one nom per person and the reps and senators all talk to each other to try to make sure of it. The reasoning is that more HS graduates are given a chance. On the portal you'll note that if you have a nom, that is checked. That's all that's needed, they don't give you more checks for more noms, there is only one.:thumb:

I agree with prof, but I would put it differently.

They don't give you more WCS points for having more noms. Not everyone will enter as "charged" to the MOC. Some will enter from the national pool. A candidate with 4 noms (3 MOCs and Pres) may still not get an appointment, while the candidate with 1, not charged to the MOC, will!

It is about the WCS.

so I get that but they can choose more than one of the group of 10 noms? DS has the package, NHS, boys state, 2 varsity athlete, eagle, 34 ACT but I know competition is stiff

Thanks, perfect explanation

After the MOC appointee is charged, and IF the WCS is high enough they compete in the National Pool, so yes, they can have more than 1 on the slate. The difference is the MOC can only be charged 1.

Same for USNA

Yup- As a candidate myself I keep doing the same, every day, even sundays, I check the mailbox anxiously. Then when I get on the computer, I check the Candidate Information System. The wait is crazy, I'd almost rather hear that I didnt get accepted sooner than wait longer to ehar that I was accepted.

What?!?! Why did you even apply if you would rather hear that you didn't get in than to wait a few more weeks??? Patience is a virtue my friend....

Yes. You can update your package. My son's package had already met the board and they said that it never hurts to keep everything current. Just fax the data with a cover sheet.

profsparrow is correct. It only takes 1 nom. However, if you qualify for noms in multiple categories (i.e. MOC & Presidential) then you also compete multiple times. However, you are still just as nervous waiting and checking. Next week brings new hope.

For those who get QNV's (that really are highly qualified candidates) - are there statistics on how many re-apply? Not just say they are going to, but actually do?

I hope to one day post in the "official appt thread" until that day comes... I remain a stalker.

Saw something about a FB page for parents, for parents of accepted cadets only? Correct?

I hope you all are having a great Sunday! I for one can't believe it's the 18th already - only 2 or 3 more weeks of stalking!

Cheers!

Good luck trying out for the flying team.... there are only a couple members and the only way to get on the team is if they really like you.

DS has had a great time with the flying team. It takes some effort, but they seem to have a lot of fun and they get to wear their flight suits a lot. He tells me they feel like wearing PJ's to class.

The selection process was strung out over several meetings and events with a gradual winnowing of propsects, so you've got several chances to make a good impression. By the way, he knew none of them going in. He's just a good guy, not some kind of uber-personality. He had twin engine/instrument rating when he showed up for basic.

Try out!! Try out!! After all, it's about AIMING HIGH, right? :thumb:
