Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Applicants for 17 take heed.

CFA is not a "whatever matter".

Humm- we were told no update would be considered after the Jan 31 deadline. That was not only from ALO but also directly from admissions. Think the only exception is for Dodmerbs and waivers.

Doesn't hurt to try? I mean yeah, it's gonna be a waste of stamps if it all backfires, but accomplishments don't end after 15 Feb right!

"Interesting" news today. DS was interested in both USAFA and USNA. He received an LOA and offer of appointment to USNA, but he's been waiting to see if he would be offered an appointment to USAFA and could choose. Unfortunately(?), his USAFA portal changed and said his application was "Complete but administratively disqualified." His USAFA counselor said that his CFA score was no longer competitive and that because the competition is so tough this year, they are not allowing "re-do's." So...DS will be going to USNA. The choice between the two was close anyway, so we're celebrating him going to USNA:thumb:. His best friend is a fellow football player on our HS football team, he is also going to USNA as a recruited athelete (an offensive back). I was looking forward to taking a week vacation in Co. Spgs. this June and meeting many of you, but that's not in the cards. I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and guidance. Good luck to all of you! And if, like our DS, your DS or DD doesn't get that BFE from USAFA, I know that these outstanding young men and women will have great Plans B, C, D etc. and will serve our nation wonderfully and be incredibly successful in whatever they do, whether it's in the USAFA or elsewhere. If I had a wish for all of you that don't get a BFE, it would be that you would be as happy with the Plan B, as we are with DS's. May God Bless! ...BTW, for those of you watching, DS is TX-14.

I read this and immediately checked my file, but nothing new. (Felt like I didnt do too great on the CFA) Congrats to your DS though!:thumb:

CristalLee,

Unless things have changed, and may very well have, there is no conversion for Type 2 to 1 regarding scholarship.

Type 2 is they will pay up to 18K in tuition and you pay the remainder. I do not know the college your child has selected, but if your child has a Type 2, top 25% in AFROTC recipients, most likely they will get merit from the college.

I can not in any manner fathom why you would want a Type 1 3 yr. Reason why is that come their sophomore yr in AFROTC it is EA/SFT. Don't get it and they can cut you at the end of your sophomore yr.

Financially, it would have to be 20-30K in difference to risk the 1 yr.

Thank you for your advice (We really do listen and value it). DS is currently looking at Univ of Co (Boulder), Colorado School of Mines, Angelo State Univ (in Tx) and Texas Christian University. The reason he wanted type 1 is he had wanted to go to Syracuse University (NY) or Embry Riddle (AZ).

Honestly, I hate asking all these questions... there should be a class for parents during their child's Jr year to learn all the ins and outs. I don't know what EA/SFT means (ok found EA Early Action - but I still don't know what it means)... can you explain? What is a merit scholarship?

EA stands for Enrollment Allocation, and SFT stands for Summer Field Training (or something close to it).

Basically, a cadet in AFROTC must go through SFT in order to become an upperclassman, and eventually an officer. In order to go to SFT, you must have an EA. They are used interchangeably sometimes because they refer to the same thing, field training.

Funny thing is... my DH did this on the SOAR program (prior enlisted) through AFROTC at ERAU. So he went to Field Training... I remember it as "your 20 month old daughter may not survive you being gone at FT, do not be surprised if she is not here when you return." Funny thing is, when he returned, she wanted nothing to do with him... but DS (3 y/o at the time) ran to him as he got off the plane.

I should have paid better attention to all the ins and outs...

NEVER in my wildest dreams did I think that DS would want to go to the USAFA or do ROTC. Now DD is talking about it too (currently in her Soph year)- be-still my heart - I may have a heart attack.

I clearly have too much time on my hands on Mondays...

Hi all -- I've been keeping a low profile on this forum because I know my DD periodically peruses the forum as well and I don't want to add my anxiety to hers. But I noticed that the tenor of this thread is getting a bit down...alot of plan B discussions. It's always good to mentally prepare for other options, but don't lose hope! Think positive! Last I heard most of the appointments are still out there! You have awesome kids...it could just as well be them getting that BFE as anyone else!

Sorry last post on the ROTC subject, I know we are stalking USAFA in here... (which I am doing with baited breath... and that's why this thread is my "home").

Got AFROTC letter in the mail - he was offered a Type 2 - but if he would consider changing majors (to one that fits the AF needs better), he can convert to a Type 1!!! :yay:

Wow...celebrating with your DS and your family. What wonderful news!!! Congratulations!!!! :jump1:

We got the same letter on Saturday! It does help you breath a little easier, doesn't it?

The CFA information is really is uncomfortable news for the rest of us, still waiting to hear from USAFA. Wow...It does speak to having a solid Plan B and thankfully, my son does, but USAFA is still his first choice, so we wait....

So glad USNA was a close second for your son and he feels good moving forward. Very nice that he has a friend going there too. Enjoy the celebration with your son and the rest of his senior year. Blessings to you.

Once again, DS SMNE'ed...(stalked mailbox, no envelope). He's very patient (more than I am!) and happy that there were no dreaded LITTLE envelopes in there, either! Praying with all here for good news in the coming days. Keeping the faith!!

Left for Target, no mail yet . . .

But when I got home, still no mail? DS came out to help with packages, so I asked him, "Did you already check the mail?" (Yes!) "Was there anything Good?" (He knew exactly what I was asking.) He said YES, and started to smile BIG! Then DS said, "The Home Designer Catalog came for you!" I could've spanked him (but he's bigger than me). Good that he's keeping his sense of humor. :shake:

Yorkiemom..love your DS sense of humor!! It will help him get through the first year at the USAFA. Best wishes for a BFE tomorrow.

USNA and USMA Forums

On a side note, I wish the USNA forum was as active as the USAFA threads. Y'all are GREAT! My only regret is that I probably won't get to meet y'all!

USMA and USNA are discussing book recommendations and religion (or nothing). They just aren't hard core mail box stackers like we are here on the USAFA threads. :shake:

Whew! Huge relief today. I checked the mail, which arrived 3 hours later than usual...probably just to spite me  but I saw a thin letter from the medical review board. Needless to say my heart sank, but it turns out it was just telling me I was medically qualified for ROTC and the USAFA. -hmph- Thanks for the heart attack, but I'm really relieved that it wasn't a disqualification!!

Profsparrow...October 6th: Air Force vs Navy football game in Colorado Springs...be there!

Again, where's the "like button" on this thread? I don't always want to comment, but I do wish to show my approval! LOL

Got home from work tonight for a large white thick envelope! My heart stopped! It turned out to be DS AROTC photos from college! LOL
