Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

In addition to stalking the mailbox...be aware and answer all phone calls to your home in the next few weeks. My daughter got a call from our congressman last year on March 21st to congratulate her on her appointment. Her BFE arrived exactly one week later. The same day that her BFE arrived she got a call from our Senator congratulating her as well.

Our congressman actually called the house while she was in school. I asked if he would mind calling the school...and he did. I called the school and told them what was about to happen, and they were kind enough to have a camera ready to snap her reaction.

Best Wishes to you all....

To add to that, most MOC's that call will call from their DC office...202 area code.

This is an election yr., so don't jump to the conclusion a 202 is a ROBO call.

Has anyone heard from MD? Im going crazy waiting to find out. I guess no news is still good news.

waiting in MD

We too are waiting in MD District 5. This is the second time for our DS who went to NWP as a free agent and is now at UMD College Park. Good luck to you usaffanatic!!

I've planned to attend NWP next year if my Plan A doesn't come through. How much did your DS improve his SAT/ACT scores at NWP?

Skydivingkittens, DS says (and we parents agree) that it was the best decision he ever made...regardless of where he ends up. NWP was a lot of hard work, he brought his verbal scores up from 28 to 32 and math from 26 to 32. The young men and women all have the same goals and encourage each other every step of the way, such awesome support. Mr. & Mrs. Durbeck who run the school are like surrogate parents - we just can't say enough good things about the whole experience. DS left home as a shy teenager and came back to us as a confident, responsible, mature young adult.

As so many of the long term posters on this forum have advised, It is important to speak to your admissions counselor should you not earn an appointment this year. You need to address your weakness and NWP may not be the answer. If, for example, leadership is where you fell short, NWP does not have many opportunities to help you. DS needed to address his low ACT/SAT scores and so NWP was a perfect fit. One of the other positives for DS was that it was only one semester which allowed him to attend UMD and establish himself there this spring. He joined AFROTC and this is his plan B.

I wish you all the best in your mailbox stalking, we are still praying for BFEs!!

Cool! I'm actually from MD District 5 as well and at UMD! Does your DS have a Congressional or Senatorial Nom? And actually if your DS is in AFROTC at MD right know I might now him :p

@ skydivingkittens, I went to NWP last year with an 1890 SAT. I left with a 34 ACT, which is around 2250.

However, be advised: simply being part of a program won't raise your competitiveness, you need to personally pour your heart and soul into your goals. The program at NWP is a second-to-none, amazing catalyst for self-improvement , but if you want to significantly raise your scores then prepare yourself to go to near Faustian levels of personal commitment and not expect anything or anyone to somehow 'hand you' a high score. Finally, please listen to what MD_SPIRIT said about talking to your counselor and finding your 'fit'.

I believe you do know my DS, I'm pretty certain he is in your flight! He just got a medical waiver if that gives you a clue...

He has a presidential and senatorial nom

Need a break? Try something different.

For those of you who need a break from checking an empty mailbox, doing laundry, training for a marathon you haven't signed up for yet, snacking, checking the clock to see if it's "5 o'clock somewhere" (or adult beverage time), or you have done too much online retail therapy (you know who you are), you may want to read the posts from the class of 2015 Mailbox Stalkers Club. Read the posts backwards. This info may shed some light on a timeline from last year as to when candidates were notified with BFEs, TWEs, Prep School, and Falcon Foundation offers. But if you do this, it's not for the faint of heart, as you will read of the heart breaking disappointments of others just like us.

For example, I didn't know a candidate would first get a TWE, then a few weeks later get a Prep School offer. Then we will all have questions about how the Falcon Foundation works. Those ?s are all asked and pretty much answered on the 2015 stalker thread. Also, in late April, candidates started to get BFEs, after they already lost hope, because they got appointments with VP nominations. It's all very interesting.

I know very little about the Falcon Foundation, but know some about the Prep School. Here are websites with more info.

Maybe some of you can share first hand knowledge too. How much the FF costs is always a concern no one wants to talk about, but it's a practical and very real question.

It's hard to think about plan B or C right now. I am just looking for information and a way to stay productively busy. (One can only eat, drink, clean, exercise, do laundry, check the mailbox, and of course, obsess over the SA forum, so much. Something's gotta give!) I thought maybe some of you might be looking for more information too.

Our mail already came today: ALL JUNK!! No BFE, not even one bill to pay!

See you tomorrow! (But I'll be checking back at least 10 more times today!:shake:)

awesome! Yes! Our flight is most assuredly the best :D You're DS is a great guy, and I really really hope he gets into the Academy!

My ALO mentioned in passing this morning that there's still time before my file is in front of the review board...guess I can cool it on the stalking (for this week at least)

Stalked mailbox, found a nice shirt from Norwich. At least there was something interesting this time!

Stalking mine. I will check my mailbox everyday even if its raining, snowing, breezy, windy or sunny outside.

A BFE or just a decline envelope is what I'm looking for; I have my backups plans: C and D just in case I don't get jack haha :thumb:

Good luck to everyone of course.

Well if you don't get a BFE you may have a future as a mailman :shake:
"Neither rain, nor snow, nor gloom of night will prevent us from our appointed rounds"...to the mailbox.

On another note, someone, somewhere on this thread suggested that candidates take the time to write down their feelings about why going to the Academy is important and what is their ultimate goal. Then take it with them to the Academy to refer to in tough times. Sounds like a good idea to me...

I had heard some very similar advice. They said that an appointee should take time before I-day and write them-self some very thoughtful letters of encouragement, reminders of why they chose to pursue an Air Force career, and to remember the excitement and joy they felt about going. After writing the letters they said to seal them, address them accordingly, add postage, and leave them for family to send throughout 4* year.

Im from district 5 to! I got an AFROTC scholarship to UMD but i would much rather have USAFA. Another day no news.
