Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

According to last year . . .

Not to take out a calculator again, but it makes me feel better!

According to last year, the BFEs starting arriving at mailboxes on 29 Mar, which was a Tuesday last year (is there an emoticon for Geek?). That includes your good news, DAD, in IL!!

So if mail doesn't come today, tomorrow just might be the day, which makes sense if phone calls from MOCs were being made (in those states with the modern convenience of the A. G. Bell's invention) last Thurs, Fri, and Saturday. Then the USPS, aka "Snail Mail," would take 2 to 3 days and arrive by Tues (tomorrow) . . . unless the candidate lives in HI, AK, rural areas of the US, APO addresses, or doomsday prepper locations (bunkers, silos, secret locations). :shake:

So check my math!

(Now, if we take the derivative of the exponent, use the quadratic formula to solve for x, and use a graphing calculator to . . . :thumb:) Where's the chocolate!

Good luck everyone! I hope we all get good news. If it doesn't happen today, Tuesday just might be our lucky day!

That made me smile, which is hard to do considering it is a Monday (rainy, cold and gloomy where I live)!! I hope we all hear something this week, because it is driving me crazy not knowing! My parents and friends keep telling me to just forget about it and then the days would go by quicker ...if only they knew

Yorkie, thank you for taking the lead on the MBSC (Mail Box Stalkers Club). I cannot say enough how important it was for all of the families last year to have a supportive group during this time. Some great relationships were made during that period and it is good to see this continuing this year.

I know how the weather is up there! We moved here from Wayzata ... I miss those pick-em ups breaking through the ice on the lake at the end of the fishing season because those boys would rather fish on bad ice than go home...

I'm still sitting here reading the email that was forwarded to me earlier today and still can't believe that this is happening for my son. Emotions have been across both ends of the spectrum. Back at the end of Sept when DS completed application and said now "I wait" we were all really focused on one thing and that was my father-in-law. He had fallen at his place on 9/11/11 (~2000hrs) and we didn't know of it until 0800hrs the next morning. Turns out that from that day forward it was the beginning of the end and he passed away on 1/12/12.

He was a member of the "Greatest Generation" and a survivor of the USS Franklin (March 1945, great read). He was a great inspiration to both of our children and me the jarhead.

Though today's news may seem exciting it is a struggle for DW because as she stated "I haven't gotten over the last one" and now her son is leaving (last child in home) in ~98 days, this is killing her.

Let me offer my condolences to you and your family, I know what great people those of that generation are/were. My dad passed away unexpectedly two years ago and we felt the same. He was a USMC WWII, China, and Korea infantry combat vet - 1st/1st, 1st MarDiv at Peleliu and Okinawa, North China Marines, 7th Marines at Chosin. They don't make em like those men anymore...

My son is his spitting image in looks and behavior. It's gonna be tough sending him out the door. I hope your wife is feeling better about all of this and I know she's got to be over the moon with pride in your son's accomplishment.

Best to you and hang in there!

Oh yeah those good ole pick em ups, fortunately not many have fallen through this year because of the "warm" weather.

Hehheh, I'd imagine so. If I got a little late in the winter due to the terrible traffic on Medicine Lake Road in Plymouth on my way to my job in Crystal, I'd detour left to Medicine Lake, go down the West launch ramp, buzz my 325 xi across the lake, up the East ramp and be in Crystal in 5 mins...

Good stuff!!! (thick ice)

Man, I have a hard time understanding your Minnesotan language!

Hey there -- I think I might have posted it already, but just wanted to pass on what my daughter's MOC and ALO and coach said -- MOCs are given 7 days to call appointees if they want to, then packets are mailed. Board met on the 21st, and next packets will be mailed ON the 28th...Wed. So according to your math and faith in the USPS, perhaps the more likely stalking scenario is Friday, the 30th.

But this is all just hearsay, some of it fairly reliable, but anything can happen. So good luck.

Cold weather? Send some down here! It's nothing but sun and 85+ degrees! Already had the sprinkler out while on the trampoline yesterday! I must say, it was a nice change for the last district soccer game to be 79 degrees and AH-MAZING! We won by the way... 1st place for district! It was a nice end to the season.

80 Degrees + in Lower Alabama, sunny, bright, and ready for Honeydoo's yardwork list!

:rolleyes::biggrin:

It was 75 degrees here in minnesota last week and then this morning it was 40°! Thats minnesota for ya. Dontcha knooow?

We did that too! Weeded & mowed the whole yard (think large corner lot, could use a riding mower - but have two teenagers instead). I pruned all the hedges (some didn't survive the winter... too many cold/ice snaps - well that coupled with the hottest/driest summer ever last year). Hubby went up into the attic to fix our skylight... came down looking like he had sat fully dressed with a jacket on in a sauna - it's too much to go from in the 30's to in the 80's already!

We seriously get about a week of spring... Last week's soccer game, literally in the 30's ice/sleet/hail/rain - underarmour, layers, london fog jacket, portable heater, blankets, hats, gloves, heated seat warmers, fur lined boots and to add insult to the cold you experience sitting out there for 90+ minutes, it poured rain! We are a sight to see! All us parents sit side by side, sharing blankets, huddling for warmth in numbers! I call that dedication! I can tell whomever decided to make HS soccer a Winter sport, clearly didn't have a kid playing soccer! On the flip side, this summer will be so hot - I won't want to go anywhere unless they have indoor air-conditioned parking! I don't even want to walk from my car to whatever A/C building. But yet, we will sit out in the blistering sun and watch a soccer game (kids play year round between club and HS soccer) / track meet / cross country race!

Hi,
I've been lurking around here for a few weeks and I finally decided to join. I had a question to ask:
A girl that goes to my school and I both applied to USAFA and we were both nominated by the same MOCs (2 of them).
The other day (3/22), she got a call from one of those MOCs (not sure which one) saying that she got an appointment. I did not get that call. :frown:
My question is: does that mean that that MOC is all finished and that I have no chance of getting an appointment from him? I mean, it wouldn't make sense for him to call some but not all of his appointees, yes?
Just a bit confused...
Thanks for any info!

MOCs are only allowed to have 5 cadets in an academy at any given time. This being the case, usually when someone from an MOCs slate is appointed, the rest of the nominees get put on the National Waiting List.

Do the people on the Waiting List get appointments too? Or is it like a backup if people decline their appointments?

I'm 99.99999999% sure that 2016USAFA is on the wait list and is concerned that since his/her MOC called his/her friend that they won't be getting an appointment.

I don't have an answer for their question, but I do know that basically all if not all principle nominations and those chosen to fill MOC slots have already received their appointments.
