Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Hi all -
I've been reading the boards for some time now - thank you for such a wealth of information, and humor!
We're still stalking here in NC - hoping for positive news soon!
Congrats to everyone who's already been accepted!
Those of you still waiting - I feel your pain!!!!

Right here with you in NC ... I think I am more nervous than my DS.

Seems like a lot of NC candidates on this board. It may be that the noms for Burr go in almost to the last day available, which may be the reason why they come out later than other states.

kskad1,
Remember you are taking a risk by calling, but the news will be the same, whether you find out today or Friday, or next week. It's up to you. You can say you have patience if you prefer to wait, or you can say you have courage if you choose to call. Either way, you can see it as a strength and a choice.

When you call, ask for the staffer who handles the nomination applications. You may know that person's name from sending in your application. Look in your files or on the MOC's website. Don't ask for the MOC. Tell the staffer that you heard the list of appointees has been sent out to MOCs. Did Sen/Cong ____ receive it, and would it be possible to know if your name is on the list? Listen carefully if you applied to more than one SA. If you want to ask any other questions, I recommend you write them down in advance so you don't forget due to nervousness or excitement. If you are on the list, don't get so excited that you forget to say thank you. Use your best telephone etiquette.

If he/she can't tell you, it doesn't mean you're not on the list. Just means he/she can't share the info. You tried, but will have to wait. Good luck!
DS's MoC SA staffer sent an e-mail asking to talk to DS, NOT PARENTS! She didn't say that in her e-mail, it was implied. If such a phone call is to be made, it should be made by the candidate. That was our experience. The staffer wants to personally be the first to let the candidate know the good news. We suspected that the reason she was going to call was to let him know he got an appointment, but didn't know for sure. And if she DID tell us, I know we couldn't have kept our mouths shut, or he would have read the looks on our faces. It was tough enough waiting for two days, without bugging her with constant e-mails, for her to have the time to call DS. But the call came and the staffer's hard work resulted in an appointment. She absolutely deserved to be the first to let him know!

If you call your MOC and they say you are not on the list, does that mean there is no chance? Or could you be on a wait-list? Or do the MOC even have all of the names yet? My MOC's office did not have my name, but she said that they only had received a few appointment notifications and no one had been rejected yet...
Is there still another board on deciding appointees?

An MOC can only have 1 person per slate. The question you really needed was to find out if they have been charged yet?

If the answer is yes, than you would have to live another day from the pool, if you make it to the pool. If the answer is no, that means you still have both the MOC and the pool chances.

This is why some posters feel that calling will not result in assistance from your perspective.

Thanks for the answer, but I'm a bit new with the lingo. What do you mean by "one person person per slate", "charged", and "pool"?

If a call is made to a MOC I think the question that should be asked to the staffer is "Has an email been received from USAFA for me with an Offer of Appointment"? The email that I received last week about DS's appointment was forwarded through a contact that received the forwarded email from the Senator's staffer. In the subject line was the following with DS's name "Air Force Academy Offer of Appointment - Name Here".

The email then identifies the mailing date, ours is 28 Mar. Followed by that a statement/disclaimer that all nominating sources have been notified (3 for DS) and that the nominating source to be charged will not be determined until after the Class of 2016 arrives at the Air Force Academy.

DS did apply for a VP nom as well, but we don't know and I don't think anyones knows the status of those nom requests to the VP. All that to say that even though you see appointments coming from your district I don't think necessarily means you are out of the running yet. I feel that USAFA will make their picks, let the dust settle and figure out the MOC charges later. Keep in mind that there are MOCs that do not receive requests for nominations and those are open slots.

If I have misstated anything please correct me. This is just the way I see it from the outside based what I have learned to understand about this entire process. Congrats to the new Appointees and praying for those still waiting.

I have to agree with prof on this one. I have also noticed from posts on here that there are parents checking portals. I don't mean any offense to anyone, but I feel this is a little invasive. Personally, I would be mad if I found out my parents were checking MY applications. I am applying to USAFA, not them. Mine don't even know what the website is. I would think it'd be stressful to find out that your DS or DD didn't make it and then have to tell them yourself because you snooped, or have to keep it from them and have them wonder what you're so sad about. Like my father reminded me yesterday when I was staring at my app that still had a "candidate" status.. "A watched pot never boils." Believe me, I understand how stressful this is. My future, along with all other candidates, are on the line here. But you have to believe that everything will work out just fine in the end regardless of what happens. :wiggle:

Yesterday I asked in post 1042(?) or there abouts. If you get an appt to the pool, does the MOC get notification? One other question about the portal but I'm on my phone and can't retrieve it at the moment.

Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Thanks for the answer, but I'm a bit new with the lingo. What do you mean by "one person person per slate", "charged", and "pool"?

Each MOC is allowed 5 appointees per SA at one time. The MOC may have 1 or 2 slates (openings) depending on turnover (Graduation, Drop out, medical, etc.). They can nominate 10 people per slate, but only one can be connected to that slate (Charged). If you are not selected for any slate, you are put in the national pool to select the remaining slots for the class. Hopefully that helps. If not PM me with questions. Best wishes! :thumb:

Thanks Dad,
Just wondering if you knew when the FINAL decisions would be made? Like the ones from the pool?

FWIW, DS SMNE'd so that's behind him for the day. Didn't expect anything since the BFE mailing is expected to begin tomorrow, so no real biggie. He hasn't given up stalking his cell phone, though! Still a chance to make it to the top of the MOC's priority list today, since they may have been too busy to call so far.

A flute without holes, is not a flute. A donut without a hole, is a Danish. Any day without a TWE is a good day, but a day without sunshine is like...night.

Keeping the faith (and what's left of my sense of humor!!)

Sounds very philosophical. If I'm around these forums next year I'm definitely going to quote this to the eager '17 candidates.

I agree. Everyday without TWE is a good day.

I'm not sure Dad or anyone has that information. From now until I-Day there may still be some jostling around, some people have a change of heart, some get injured, others get alcohol hits, still others end up getting Senioritis and this leads to some grades that gain them some unfavorable attention from the Academy. If you look at last year, some people got QNV letters and a week later were offered appointments. Good luck, this is a tough process and it is only the beginning of a journey.

I just called my nominations coordinator and told them I had received a nomination and was curious if I had received an appointment :)

okay thanks. I think I will call them soon, i'm just so nervous!! and congratulations to you!!!!!!!
