Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Great job everyone....DS is away for a 4 day ROTC event and is out of reach of his phone. Here's hoping he gets a call from his MOC... still waiting in NJ.....

Just my opinion - but it sounds as though all the offers that are going to be made, have been made - especially with the acceptance date of 15 April. Are they really going to roll out more appointments (for arguments sake by 6 April) and expect them to accept a week later? There might be a few more after they get the handful of declines - but i'm not holding my breath. Such a sad realization. No, haven't given up, but man the hope is awfully hard to hold on to.

CristalLee, My thoughts exactly. I spent much of the evening, late into the night reading last years appointment thread just to get a feel for how everything played out last year. I think you may be right, but maybe admissions is altering the deadline by batch in order to control the knowledge of declines?? It looks like we may be a week behind where they were last year at this point since we have 70+ on our appointment thread and they had 90+ during the same week. Who knows? It sure looks like the odds are slim now. I think I did all my crying last night.:frown:

There is still a chance though. We will wait together! I just checked the mail, no news is good news at this point.

This is not at all true. It just means that some people will not hear until after April 15th. That is the deadline for people to accept or decline. Some people will certainly decline. Then they will offer those appointments to the next person inline. Way too soon to be calling it a day. Keep Smiling.

STOP, please

Exactly. Keep a positive attitude - just look at the last appointments from last year. They were REALLY late. Plus while this might be disappointing, you will face many more challenges in the near future if you are appointed. Everyone will need to get some perspective or else you will find yourself in a constant cycle of angst and despair.

Keep doing the right things focus on that you can control and you will soon find out what is happening.

Best!

I hate to say it, but I do feel that this weekend or Monday will be the true make or break aka move onto Plan B.

The idea that after the 15th there maybe another round is giving false hope.

The AFA always sends out more appointments than the class size, it has for yrs. There would have to be a heck of a lot of "NO's" for people to feel safe that come May they will be picked up.

It does happen regarding last minute calls, but in the 4 1/2 yrs here, I don't need all of my fingers on one hand to tell you how many times I have seen it.

I have seen yr after yr posters swearing they will be back (Terminator). The majority of them don't! That is why the AFA loves 2nd timers.

The candidates move on quicker than you can sneeze. In a week they will be on FB trying to find a roommate to dorm with. In a month it will be about the laptop they want for school. In 2 months from now it will be about orientation and classes. In 3 months from now it will be about food plans, bed linens and spending money. So on and so forth.

6 months from now when they are settled at their school in their AFROTC det. with college friends, for many this will be just a TWE like any other college! Many will say, I can get my dream AF career via ROTC, and the ring knocker is not my goal. Others will say I can get it via ROTC, but I want the ring knocker.

Neither is right, neither is wrong. Just different paths and ONLY the applicant knows which path they will take.

How much do they love 2nd timers? (I'm assuming you mean 2nd time applying?)

Stole the words right out of my mouth.

@2016USAFA, It's okay to vent a little online, but seriously, you're reaching the limit. The constant self pity you're displaying is truly unbecoming of you.

There's more I wish to say, but I'll hold my tongue.

Okay, big boy. Settle

Actually, no news is terrible because it means we are not getting appointments... Otherwise, we would have been informed by now before the April 15 deadline.
Strange, because my DD"s letter of appointment says to make a decision by May 1st, not April 15th.

What Pima says is very true, yet last year 6 appointments were added to the appointment thread in April the latest was April 29th. So, my point still holds. It ain't over till it's over.

The last thing I want to say, is to try and keep our communications between each other supportive. Everyone is dealing with the anxiety and disappointment their own way. I also agree with Pima that people need to keep their perspective, plan B or Plan C is just another path and once you are on it, much of this will fade from memory.

Doesn't matter whether it's 15 April or 1 May, my DS already accepted the offer. It was his first choice, Plan A, and he's been thinking about it since we sent out the inital packets for nominations last summer. That's plenty of thinking! May 1st was the deadline for Plan B college, but their semester starts in late Aug, not 28 Jun, plus they don't have to organize and prep for uniforms, and all the other stuff USAFA provides for new cadets. BCT is all about doing tasks without questioning, so get used to it. The military is all about deadlines, and you better meet them (even if you have to wait and wait afterwards)!! Sometimes you just don't know the big picture.

The "click" from his portal to accept led to another click/check saying "I Accept," then after answering a few other questions about his Muggle parents, DS typed in his name as a signature. There was a packet to download with information and forms.

Another packet came in smail mail today with information about the cadet bank account, etc. (I'm not home yet; DS told me over the phone.) plus a paper letter offering the appointment, just like the digital letter.

I also just want to say as a USAFA forum addict, that I only checked the forum this morning and now before leaving work. So I am working on getting back to my normal life now. Truly, I am pretty exhausted from the emotion of the week.

Stay positive everyone! :thumb:

Hey, your insolent reply was not necessary. I apologize if you were offended. I'm simply tired of seeing posts of desperation and dejection.

Okay, my bad. Truce, peace, whatever.
The fact is, we are both in the same boat, and we should both just accept Plan B now (not dejected, just honest right now).
