Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

USAFA2016,

what could possibly be condescending about somebody having faith in your abilities to have a great backup plan? Nothing. She also said "if" you get an appointment. With the way admissions goes, it is impossible to tell who will get it or not and you have to consider the "if". The people on these forums are great, and if you alienate them like this, you will miss out on a lot of the good interactions you can have with them. Good luck on getting an appointment. But realize that if you are having trouble dealing with people on a forum designed to support you, the challenge of dealing with people trying to break you next year will be much harder. Try to relax a little and give people the benefit of the doubt, things will go much easier

Thanks, but I find it a bit offensive (not to mention condescending) that you should tell me "I bet you have a great plan B"...
You don't have any idea as to what I am going to do. You have no idea if I'm going to get an appointment. For all you know, I could be way more qualified than your DS...
*sheesh*

OK folks...Chill...everything will reveal itself very soon. Turning on each other is not the way to make anyone feel better. And JacobRyan10 is entirely correct - things will be much tougher if you get in and the fourth class year will amplify everything you are feeling now 10 fold. Consider that as you try to deal with this situation.

To USAFA2016

USAFA2016: You have not failed. Just remember you have gotten so far. Your SAT scores are fantastic (they will see how hard you really do work with those scores). I know of two people (some friends of mine) that have gotten in this year with SATs lower than yours. I am in the same boat as you, I have a 3.7, and my SAT scores were only around a 1900. One of my friends had below an 1800 but he is so well rounded of a person that he was accepted. It also has a lot to do with your state too. With me, California is so competitive; hopefully your district is less competitive than mine. I'm seriously looking into prep school, I will reapply next year if I don't get into either. Hang in there, I know this waiting is killer, but in the end there are so many different roads you can take to become an officer. Try to distract yourself, I am on my school swim team and I'm attempting to get a job to distract myself more. My plan B is UC Colorado Springs with AFROTC. My dream is to become an Air Force officer, it doesn't matter which path I take to get there. Enjoy high school while you still can, hang out with your friends. GOOD LUCK!!!

Wow. This thread was intended to share the joys and sorrows of mailbox stalking. Congratulations to the Appointees and well wishes to the Qualified, but not selected. Crying and stomping of feet will not change appointment decisions and is certainly unbecoming a future Air Force Officer. This is certainly the case since not all the appointments have gone out yet. I recommend that if someone is immature enough to repeatedly whine and complain about not getting an appointment that we ignore them and go about the buisness of celebrating the quality of all candidates and expressing well wishes for whatever lies ahead. Peace.

You do realize my appointment decision hasn't been made yet, yes? :yllol:

I agree. 14 days left for those of us still hanging!

Good advice Caligirl. My son often comments to other prospective cadets that they should try to enjoy your last months of high school (though not too much!). It is a period in your life you will always look back upon, not so much because it was the highlight of your life - but more so because everything accelerates once you are in college and there are real consequences in your life once you turn 18. No matter what happens with respect to an appointment, it will not come to define you. As some people may already have said, do you know what they call a graduate of OTS, ROTC, or USAFA? "Lieutenant". - nuff said - go out and give yourself a break from stalking - it will ruin your vision! ;)

You need to knock the attitude. If you talked like that around other enlisted, no one would have any respect for you, especially since you appear to be offended about someone trying to be positive about your plan B. I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but really think about if this is what you want to do. We look to officers as mentors, those who guide us in our overall focus in what our piece of the Air Force mission is.

Maybe you've had a bad day in addition to waiting, maybe not, but this isn't the place to snap at strangers you've never met before.

Wow...I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone on here. I guess I am under the impression that if an USAFA (or any SA) applicant becomes a qualified candidate it would mean they would be extremely competitive at any number of universities across the country. I also feel it would be a safe assumption that most of the USAFA (or any SA) candidates, while ultimately hoping and praying for an appointment, would not be banking on it completely and would have actively planned for at least a B and C path. And those paths, while maybe not their "dream" choice, could also be very attractive, and ultimately lead to the goal of becoming an officer in the Armed Forces. And as Pima has said, many who initially are determined to reapply, find their Plan B serves them so well, they chose not to reapply.

As some of you have noticed, I was really just trying to be supportive of 2016USAFA and offer words of encouragement to him and all the young men and women on here for reaching this point. Becoming a candidate is a big deal, a HUGE accomplishment. Some on here feel the majority of appointments have gone out. Maybe they have, but it's possible they haven't all gone out and there could be more to come. Regardless, I'm still praying for all of you to receive the news that is right for you and will serve you best in your future as officers.

God Bless you and thank you for your commitment to serve this great country regardless of the path that gets you there.

Just checking in that i'm still waiting!

Just wondering, how does the mailing thing work again? Does the BFE = Accepted and the small envelope of doom still apply?

So how about that weather guys? Huh? Huh?

No? Okay back to the show... :jerry:

Lol jk I just wanted to use that smiley. I hope everyone is having a blessed day. What's meant to be will be; all we can do is put forth our best effort. We can only control how we handle what comes our way and thats what shows character.

Yes.

BFE = Good
TWE = Bad

It's been a while since I've seen you posting. This year it appears that you'll get an e-mail that your portal has been updated prior to receiving the BFE. Best wishes and keep us posted. :thumb:

For all of those stressing (including me at times).
When I was a young 2Lt a great officer gave me some advice on how to be successful. "Do your best everyday and don't worry about tomorrow".

I heard him 13 years later as a 3-star give the same advice to another officer and he repeated it again at his retirement. He lived it and had no regrets.

Now I'm on the edge of retirement from the AF after 20+ years and must say that my career didn't always go the way I wanted. There were some major hardships with some incredible victories. But I can honestly say it has been the ride of my life and I too will finish with no regrets.

Not everyone will go to the Academy or ROTC but you can still do your best in whatever God has called you to do and not worry about what you can't control.

The world today needs good leaders with great attitude/perspective.

Respect! Thank you for sharing and thank you for your continued service.

In the end of the day some of you will get BFE's and some will get TWE's.

It is what you do after that matters.

I know the prestige of the AFA compared to ROTC and OCS, but in the AD world, it is what you do now that matters, not your source.

I am not saying or implying that AFA cadets and appointees should not be proud, I am saying that watch out for those ROTC/OCS officers because they have something to prove!

Motivation is a lot.

You have until you are 23, and if it is your fate, it will happen. BELIEVE!

You should also accept that maybe your fate is a different path, and you will be just as successful.

You own your destiny.
