Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

C'est la vie. You don't always get what you want; all you can do is your best. I know it's frustrating, but that really isn't the best attitude to have at this point.

I second this..:thumb:, but what does "C'est la vie" mean?

Well this really sucks... Here I thought I stood a chance because I had still heard nothing. And now people who are (allegedly) much more qualified than I am are receiving TWE's? I have no doubt that I will receive a TWE now. (I live in CT so it'll take longer to get here).
They should have told us earlier... I held out on the hope that they fabricated and now I have to just accept that I'm going to a regular, non-prestigious college... :unhappy::mad::frown:

Again, like everyone else has said and probably will say, if you get the TWE this time around, and you want to apply after you start freshman yr (granted if you dont enjoy that school more) APPLY AGAIN. If it gets to the point where you're don applying, commissioning from a civi school is just as good, as long as you intend on becoming a GREAT AF Officer (or whatever branch you end up choosing) [1 thing I learned from Pima thus far :shake:]

Wondering why more kids aren't seeing AFROTC path as viable, vs NWP or re-applying to the AFA next year. Seems like an AFROTC scholarship is valuable and a path that gets them to becoming an AF officer. Curious why this isn't plan B for more kids on this site.
I agree. If an AF officer is the goal AFROTC will get you to the same place.
Now if you are a sponsored prep, that is an incredible opportunity to reach your goal.

I believe that its because the odds of getting an AFROTC scholarship to a school of your choice that you can get into are pretty long and the budget issues and the economy don't help at all. Yes it does happen but it is very difficult.

Suppose you want to go to Georgia tech or Villanova on AFROTC scholarship. It's not long odds that if you didn't get into USAFA, then you're not likely to get into either of those schools either, so its tough.

There are lots of top notch schools with top notch AFROTC detachments that these academy applicants can get into. The scholarship helps pay the way but has no bearing on the becoming an AF officer.

I don't disagree with you Packer, the question was I wonder why theres not more applicants selecting AFROTC as thier plan B. I was just answering that.

Theres some great schools that a lot of these candidates can get into and get an AFROTC offer. The facts are stubborn things sometimes but these scholarships are just highly selective right now as are the upper level schools that I used in my example.

I think that many want the academy at least as much as becoming an officer and believe that the prep schools will give them a better chance of getting into the academy the second time around.

The Air Force is really big on resilience right now. They actually force us to take a resilience course once we get to our first duty station.

If I'm not mistaken, the goal of the AFA is to make AF officers, so I can understand people who want the AFA experience, but they better WANT to be an AF officer, because that is what graduating from the AFA makes you.
So again, I'm don't understand, if someone wants to be an AF officer, the AFA isn't the ONLY route.

Agree!

That's an extremely naive thing of you to say. Many more officers commission through ROTC each year than through the Academy. I don't know why you'd call it useless.

Yup, just got a TWE after school.
Now my plan is to try as hard as I can to avoid using the AFROTC scholarship that I earned. If they didn't want me at the academy, I sure as heck don't want to devote years of my life to a much cheaper and much more useless part of the Air Force (the ROTC).
Cheers

I really don't get where this attitude comes from.

Many will take offense to that - me included. My DH is an AFROTC SOAR recipient (we had two kids, he was prior enlisted). DH is currently a Major, (LtC board this coming year), B-1 aviator with several combat tours.

AFROTC certainly has it's place and value!

This is definitely not the attitude of someone who would succeed at an Academy. Consider that next time you are wondering why you were not accepted.

Unfortunately for you, it appears the Academy got it right on this one! Not the attitude we need anywhere in the Air Force. People who want to be leaders learn to vent their emotions in appropriate ways and at the appropriate time.

Just speaking my mind, people... No offense is being directed to anyone here...
Really, I'm just really disappointed and trying to let off some steam... Or should I stop expressing my emotions as well?:frown:

I saw on the re-applying thread your plan B is Princeton, on scholarship.
Academically you are certainly deserving as you have already been accepted into that program AND been chosen for an ROTC scholarship.

You didn't need to downplay the role of former, current and future ROTC students who have chosen that path. As of today, we're planning to PAY DS's way into college so he CAN go ROTC and follow his dream of becoming an officer in the UASF. There is nothing cheap about that.

There are MANY students who are as deserving as you are on some level who would LOVE the opportunities you've been blessed with.
