Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Haha, thanks man! I hope we get to see each other there as well! Hooyah!

Thanks to Dad, falconfamily, Jensdad, usaffanatic, Blackbird, ArapWarrior, juliusc16, Proud mom 2016, YorkieMom75, skydivingkittens, USAFA: 2016!, our ALOs, Mods, Insider, and everyone else for all your help, encouragement, and knowledge. You all are a great community, and it's been great getting to know everyone. I'll be hanging around these forums still. Congrats to all the appointments; those who received them undoubtedly deserved them! Thanks again and God bless you all.

I won't stop believin' or listening to Journey juliusc16.

Cheers! :beer1:

Great attitude LFry. Your example, encouragement, and focus on others will suit you well as a leader where ever you end up serving. I wish you the best and God's blessing as you work for the Class of 2017.

Hoping to hear from some Falcons, LEAD and prepsters soon. Hang in there guys and gals. :thumb:

From your mouth, to God's ears!

My DS, who is a LEAD candidate, thinks he will hear this Friday. That's what he was told.

I have been a nervous wreck, and watching all the mailbox stalking, BFE and TWE posts have been hard, as we wait on the sidelines.
I have cried for some, and rejoiced for others. But, through all of it, been amazed at the quality of young people here, and in the running.

Hopefully only a few more days...

TWE in Virginia

TWE arrived in our mailbox today. It was stalked by our neighbor and we haven't opened it yet but I'm certain that I know what it says. I'm glad that we have had some time to process the fact that it was probably coming...makes it just a little bit easier. DS has a very solid plan C and working on his plan B to make that happen for him. I'm a firm believer that it happens the way it's supposed to. He's going to make a great officer whether it is through ROTC or the USAFA. He's moving forward and feels good about his future. I'm super proud of him!

It is all about timing! As an AF pilot wife, I have 22+ years of the highs and lows of the AF! Watching my husband work hard in ROTC to earn one of the few (5) pilot slots given because of cut backs, to the grueling year of UPT where he was very disappointed that there was only 1 fighter in the drop ( he graduated #2), and only 8 were given planes while the rest were "banked and waiting" - base closures, planes being transferred, programs being phased out... I can say that it has been quite a roller coaster ride for him. There have been pilot cutbacks, shortages, options to get out early, and NONE of it has been in his control. He has rode the wave and had a very successful career (reserve pilot retiring Aug and moved on to his airline job 8 yrs ago @ SWA) but I can say there have been many speed bumps along the way.

When my DS received the TWE yesterday, my husband said... "welcome to the AF" My DS looked at him strangely not understanding what he meant but dad explained that things in his career have not really gone as planned along the way. This admissions cycle is just another example of our experience with the AF, it is all about the timing. I believe that a few years ago many of these candidates who received the dreaded TWE would have recieved an appointment. My son summer seminar cadet said he did 1 pull-up on his CFA and his grades were nowhere nearly as high as my son. TIMING!

DS is still deciding between Navy or AF ROTC but either way he will succeed and reach his goal. Who knows, these cutbacks we are seeing right now may in the long run be beneficial in your military career, less officers, more opportunities down the road?....

Daughter got the TWE today. Very disappointed, some crying, some feeling sorry for herself, but in the end, she asked, "So are we still going to Embry-Riddle this weekend?" She has an AFROTC scholarship there as well as a nice school scholarship. Some of life's lessons are REALLY tough, but what doesn't kill us makes us stronger! We are so proud of how bone tiring hard she has worked and the sacrifices she has made. She has a goal to be a NASA scientist and is determined to get there one way or the other! So, thanks for the support you all have given us, you are all so awesome! Good luck to all and I really hope that you who are still waiting get the BFE really soon!

LOVE Embry-Riddle! DS went down there last year but didn't get a his ROTC assigned to there! Great school and fit DS perfectly. He also got the TWE and is happy where he is....

Still nothing where I am. Had a heart attack opening the mailbox though. Although, that COULD be due to the fact that (ironically) a couple of my friends were passing by on the road and honked several times at me.

Hahaha awesome. Glad to see you have't gotten the TWE yet. :thumb: Still pulling for you over here.

u guys are lucky to have AFROTC to fall back on. I wasn't fortunate enough to get an AFROTC scholarship. I have to make the big decision of going to college on my AROTC scholarship or staying home to go to my local college which udoesn't offer ROTC. I have always wanted to go into the air force, but i dont think i could pass up the opportunity to serve in the worlds best army. Could anyone direct me to a list of paths I could take to be an AF officer other than ROTC. I know i could do OTS/OCS, but is there anything else i could do during college.I know they navy offers opportunities like this.

Army ROTC is a great opportunity! GEN (Ret) and former Secretary of State Colin Powell was commissioned through Army ROTC! I don't know what college you were planning on going to, but many schools have excellent Armt ROTC programs. For example, Embry Riddle has an excellent Army ROTC program. Last year all the new 2LTs who went through their program were commissioned into the aviation branch. All the military branches need dedicated people to serve our Nation.

Don't give up your scholarship just because it's not AF. You might just be headed for a great future as an Army officer.

Great post.
To all those that received appointments, congratulations!
To all those you are waiting to hear, hang in there, stay positive, no matter what happens.
To all those who got the TWE's, like my DS and a family friend (who does have an appt from West Point) execute your plan B's with as much fervor, zeal and effort as you put into your preparation and application for the USAFA. Everything will work out, the examples above prove that, in spades.
This year seems to have an incredibly low number of appointments (does anyone have what the number has been in previous years?) so you could just be victims of circumstance. This is a fact of life, don't let it get you down.
Best Wishes to all.

I got my TWE today. I put it in a frame over my bed to motivate me to have a stronger application the 2nd time around.

I've been watching these forums for a while...
I just wanted to say that I got my TWE yesterday. I'm from CT District 5.
Have to say I was a bit shocked, but again, maybe I just wasn't good enough, or maybe there weren't enough spots, we'll never know.
Now I'm looking into AFROTC at Boston University. I may reapply ext year, once I understand what I do and do not need (nominations, recommendations, medical exams, SAT, etc.).

Sorry to hear that, Knittle. Like your idea though, I may use it myself if I'm not appointed! Guess I'm alone in the wait now.. :help:

Is there a different process / set of requirements for kids in college vs high school for applying?
