I have a newly committed USMA plebe or cadet (still don't have the terminology down -- not military). We are working on the schedule and Beast is July 1, have they published A-Day date? I am struggling to find it. There is a small refrence on a calendar I saw which is August 12th, but wanted to make sure before I started making decisions. Thanks.

When in doubt about dates very early on for planning, call the Thayer Hotel. (845) 446-2410.

Now your child can be addressed properly as a cadet candidate.
For A-Day...you do not see your plebe before the parade...so no need to get there super early on Friday...but definitely get to the viewing stands super early on Saturday so you can sit where you can see your kid. It is a great parade.

There is a very small chance you will get to see your cadet on the March Back. We were posted along the route on Ruger Road with a banner, but despite our best "where's Waldo" searching we missed him because we were on the wrong side of the road. His Company won "Best Company of Beast" so they were out front which was cool to watch. After all the Companies passed, we made our way to The Plain via a walkway that separates The Plain from The Pad where the cadets were cleaning their rifles. Luckily his Company was posted close enough to the walkway that we could see him, and wave the banner for him to see us. His Squad Leader said "Cadet go give your mom a hug" so he slung his rifle, gave her a hug, then went back to his Company. It was literally 10 seconds to see him, but worth it for sure. Does everyone get that opportunity? Absolutely not, but you never know if you get it unless you try. It was also really cool to see our DS work with his new brothers and sisters in his Company. They all look out for each other. There is a 5 or so day gap between March Back and A Day, so you have to have find something to do between them if you plan on going to both. Another thing to consider is to make sure you get in touch with your states Parent's Club as there might be an Old Grad that will march back with the class. Get to know the Old Grads as they might have a chance to interact with your New Cadet, and could even get a picture of them ringing the "Beat Everyone" bell.

March Back is like Monday or Tuesday....A Day is Saturday.
We watched both of our March Back's online....Our Old Grads participated with our plebes....
