I am a senior in highschool and I am waiting on a USMMA decision. While waiting for results, I am planning my plan B, which is going to a civilian college and reapplying to the class of 2029 cycle(as well as sending out an application to USMA). One thing I am concerned about is the timeline of my application. I am currently filling out the candidate questionnaire and am wondering if I should fill it out now or when I get to college, because I am planning on asking professors for SOEs rather than my high school teachers. My application experience this cycle was a fiasco(I first learned what a service academy was around the nomination deadline) so I am trying to get everything done ASAP. Should I treat the timeline like a high school junior would? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am not 100% sure about this, but I believe I saw something from USMA recommending if you were rejected to wait until the summer time to think about reapplying. They probably want you to reflect on your application process for a little bit before applying again. Of course they want you to reapply as it shows that you are determined to get in no matter what, but reapplying right after rejected sounds a little preemptive.
Personally I would recommend reopening up your application halfway through the summer. I know that Field Force members start looking for people to give out LOA's around summer time, but you can probably still get one after that period. I am a college student and I opened up my file for the C/O '28 at the beginning of the school year, which was early September. This was my first time applying so I felt a little behind with applying for congressional nominations, but I was able to get in everything on time.
It is great that you already plan on reapplying, but I would allow yourself some time to reflect as the application process is a very rigorous ordeal. I am still waiting to hear back, but even if I don't get in this year I plan on taking sometime to reflect and wait before reopening up my application. A lot can change in life during the span of a couple of months.

Yes, you should essentially restart the application process 'like a high school junior.' However, take advantage of your advantages: insight, experience and one more year of schooling. For the latter, I recommend that my students to attend a college or university with an ROTC unit. Join the unit and do well in school. I've have four students who took the route, and all four won appointments as college freshmen. Best of luck with your re-application!

I also reapplied as early as I could because I wanted to at least get my portal opened early because in a way (I assume) maybe they could see how passionate I was to reapply again. I finished my application in January because I was requested to take my CFA again, but I did my essay based on both high school and first semester college experience and filled out the rest in the same manner. Still waiting for a rejection or appointment but since I am in the situation you might be in, I figured I'll give you insight into how I did it. You're gonna be the last batch naturally because the academy wants to see how you've progressed in college which is both first semester and maybe even your midterm halfway through second semester. Good luck in whatever you decide!

I am a college reapplicant for USNA for C/O '28, so it is slightly different from USMA, but my experience might help. I knew I was going to reapply even before I received my original decision; I took the ACT three days after receiving the rejection, so I opened my reapplication as soon as I could. After that, I spent most of the summer away from the application because I just needed a break. I had been consumed by the application process for that previous year, and I knew I wanted to write about my first semester of college and the lessons I learned there in my personal statement. During my first semester, I developed good relationships with my math and English professors, and they agreed to write my letters of recommendation. I also took classes that were similar to what is taken during the first year at USNA. I finished my nomination applications around early October. I did all my nomination interviews, BGO interviews, and CFA over Thanksgiving Break. I finished my personal statement over Winter Break; I didn't finish early because many significant events occurred between Thanksgiving and Winter Break at my school that I wanted to write about. Then I did my medical AMI, and got a medical waiver in early February. And now I am just playing the waiting game. I hope this helps, and good luck!

I am a third time re-applicant for USMA C/O '28. I knew after my first rejection that I wanted to reapply, so I got everything I could get done (CFA, Essays, etc. done before my first semester of college. The third time around I took some time to think about it as I had already completed a full year of ROTC and really enjoyed my time. I decided to reapply in early June and again completed as much as I could before school started again. This really helped my time management with balancing school, ROTC, etc. When it comes to SA's, early is always better since large portions of the application are dependent on your file being reviewed before moving on in the process and the longer you wait, the longer the "queue" will be.

Best of luck!

This is great advice! For USMA follow this timeline. Just remember, if you find your self near or in the red zone, you are probably too late in submitting the information. Good luck!
