Hello all,

I am a third-year community college student, still waiting to hear back from the Academy. I read somewhere that the admissions office reviews college students' applications last. Is that true? In addition, out of all the applicants, does the academy make sure to accept a certain percentage of college students? If so, am I solely competing against other college students rather than high school students? This might be a dumb question; I am just a little worried.

I too am a college student waiting for a decision... my waiting may have to do with the fact that i just had my medical exam today, nonetheless they could have sent me a conditional LOA if they thought they wanted me... SO who knows!?

I submitted my remedial two days ago to the DoD, so maybe the Academy is waiting for that result?? This waiting is killing me haha. I wish you the best bud, maybe we will see each other on campus in the fall, you never know.

I am also a third year re-applicant from a four year university. From the information I have gathered, they do not have an exact percentage that they meet, but they have a general idea of roughly how many re-applicants they take. You are correct in that you are largely competing against fellow re-applicants. While none of this information is official, it is based off my research on the internet and conversations I have had with BGOS. As for the LOAs, it is still possible to get one as a college re-applicant although rather unlikely since they like to see your college grades first otherwise they would essentially be looking at your previous application package. My first application I was constantly checking my portal but its best to try and keep yourself away from it. Wastes time and causes stress. If there is a change in it they will email you. Try to focus on coursework (big for college re-applicants), find a hobby, improve PT, or other extracurriculars. Work on preparing/improving for next application cycle should things not work out this time around. Plan for the worst, hope for they best.

I am a community college reapplicant and I just got a prep school apppointment because I didn’t do good in my chemistry class (I had a principal nominee so I choked my acceptance because of chemistry). All I’m saying is you’re in it till they tell you no. I got the appointment on Tuesday 3/3. Goodluck guys!

This is my first time applying to the academy. So it looks like I am in a disadvantage here.

I assumed that you were a re-applicant so thats my bad. I don’t believe you are at a disadvantage. When I referenced re-applicants I was speaking about college applicants. I generalized since most college applicants are re-applicants but not all of them are.

some of the info above is a bit misleading,

as a college re-applicant, you are competing for the same slots as the HS students, there is no separate competition for college students. that's not a bad thing, college re-applicants have some advantages over HS students, and a demonstrated record of strong performance is college is weighted higher that potential college performance based on HS.

there is no fixed number of college applicants that are accepted, but each year is is around 80-100.

college applicants are among the last ones to be reviewed by the board, because first semester transcripts aren't normally available till early January.

best of luck to you all!

I am also a college re applicant. I wish I would’ve done better in math but I’m just hoping that I can get into NAPS. If not then there’s a bigger plan in the making!

Should make this a sticky.

I'm a college re-applicant as well. Currently have an LOA and waiting on a medical waiver. I guess some people say a college re-applicant getting an LOA is rare but it was probably just because I needed a medical waiver. They received my transcript (last remaining part) on Jan 10. I got the conditional offer about a month and a half after. I was told by admissions that a college applicant with a strong GPA and examples of extra-curricular/leadership positions may have more potential for success than an equivalent HS candidate. But yes, college applicants are looked at later because transcripts take a good deal of time to be sent and processed.

Wow, congratulations! If you don't mind me asking, what is your SAT score?

My DS is a college reapplicant to Navy but a first time applicant to West Point. He received his nomination to West Point yesterday but has not heard from Navy. Keep the faith because college reapplicants are the last reviewed. Good Luck to you.

Congratulations - way to persevere!! I think reapplicants are amazing!
