Conditional to Full Appointment

Ds was offered a conditional appointment (DodMERB pending). He has been medically qualified for 3 weeks now. Will a new letter show up in the system? Does he have to initiate anything?

Last year the day my DD received her medical waiver, she was issued a full appointment and a new letter was available stating that in BD.

He might want to call his AO about that. Usually the new full appointment offer will replace the old conditional offer fairly quickly.

My son got his pretty quickly last year after the medical clearance came in. He did email his coach and AO to let them know that it came back all clear though, so that might have sped up the process.

We received the conditional appointment letter in the portal last night (hooray!), but the letter says my son needs to complete his medical exam with DoDMERB, even though he completed his exam months ago. We knew he would need a waiver/ would be conditional based on the response from the DoDMERB (again, from months ago), but now I am confused as to what happens next and/ or what we should be doing? Any insights would be appreciated! Thank you!

I would contact Shannon.E.Castineira@uscga.edu who is the medical liaison at the CGA. If your son has been DQd by Dodmerb, then the CGA waiver authority should start the waiver process automatically now that he has been offered an appointment. But double check with her for confirmation

Congratulations on that great news! Can you please clarify if the appointment letter says conditional on DoDMERB exam or conditional on medical waiver? If it’s the later, mine had to follow similar steps and I’d be happy to share his experience.

Thank you so much!!! It says, "The Superintendent has tendered you a conditional appointment to the Class of 2028!... Based on your conditional appointment status, you must satisfy the following in order to receive a full appointment: Complete your medical examination with the ~DoDMERB....".

I second the suggestion from Ept1983 above by having DS email Mrs Castineira for clarification, especially if your DS is current on the steps. Just in case, be sure he checks DODMETS and DoDMERB for any additional or outstanding AMI requests. Hoping this is simply an easy paperwork fix!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

Quick update: DS submitted additional documentation to DoDMERB. He received confirmation from his DoDMERB case manager that it was received and followed up with Shanon Castineira and his AO to let them know it was sent (thanks for the wonderful advice, here!!). Now we wait patiently....

We are still in waiver limbo here. It’s been a little over 6 weeks since conditional USCGA appointment. They haven’t asked for any additional documentation (maybe because we submitted everything there is to submit?). DS recently asked for update/timeline and was told they are working through waivers with the goal of getting them completed by May 15th. 🤪

Waiver limbo is no fun at all. Sounds like your DS is in the queue and has done all he can do. Praying for the best possible outcome for y’all!

I am sure this has been answered, but in the "awaiting medical waiver" category- will a change in status (hopefully in the positive) first "show up" as a new letter in Bear's Den? Or would it be a call from the AO? Or something else entirely? And thank you for the update @Ept1983 - your post helps set my expectations around timeline.

We first received an email from Ms Castineira with waiver letter attached. DoDMERB status changed to “waiver granted” within a day or two. Conditional appointment letter replaced with Full appointment letter in his Bears Den also within a few days of receiving waiver.
