My school has chosen to bring back students, and the ROTC program is proceeding in a mostly normal way. However, other MS1's and myself are not given the opportunity to contract until mid-late September. Seeing how re-opening has gone for schools like Notre Dame and UNC, I am unsure if we will actually make it to mid-September in person. Will contracting be possible if we are all told to return home? I would reach out to my PMS but another MS1 did and was given no useful information.

Worry about what you can control, not what you can't. Trust that the unit and the national ROTC program is not set on screwing you over if you're sent home. They'll come up with an (equitable) solution, and it probably won't be your PMS who decides what it is. Just one man's opinion.

***OK sports fans, let me clarify. Here's the deal bluntly***:

1. Contracting and and and all provisions surrounding it, is a Cadet Command authority and responsibility.
2. COVID19 and all associated challenges "may" present different options as to how that is executed during these times.
3. The Department of Army, thru TRADOC, thru Cadet Command HQs will establish or modify those policies.
4. Cadet Command Brigades and Bns will execute those policies and will be the folks on the ground to disseminate that information to their applicants/cadets.
5. Norwich Dad was stating the obvious: "Also I advise do not be the one who hammers his ROTC departments with emails and phone calls to a question they cannot answer." The operative word is "hammer."
6. Ask your questions thoughtfully and respectfully and allow a reasonable period of time for them to respond.
7. If I were doing it, I'd do it in writing.

8. So, if TB_Rays or JBfortunecookie feels they can do that without the comments above, send me your questions and I will ask. I guarantee that no one in Cadet Command will take the approach you imply, if you execute #6 and 7 above. :wiggle:

The ROO should be demanding(!!) that you contract the first day. 1. It starts your pay and waiting costs you money. 2. It locks you in, folks can walk away in the waiting period. 3. Giving an APFT is supper easy. We’ve given 2 apfts and an ACFT in the first week of school.

We were just told that once we complete our 104R and present the required documents we are able to contract. They waived the APFT because of new restrictions my school has put on groups of 10 or more people. They said Cadet Command wants this done ASAP for MS1s and that getting paperwork done in a timely manner is really important this year. Hope this helps someone.

I’ve been in ROTC for 3 weeks now and I already HATE the 104-R
