Hello All,

I received an invite to a CVW and I am going in November. I was wondering if anyone knows what percentage of people get accepted that get invited, and what I should expect when I do go. Also by BGO said to wear a shirt and tie, which I have read in another forum was awkward. Any help would be great, thank you in advance.

Don't know anything about acceptance stats. I wore nice jeans, nice shoes and a polo/sweater. Shirt and tie is awkward. It isn't an SEC football game. After an admissions brief, you should expect to follow a pleber around for the period of time that you are there. You'll get to see all of the cool things they do...chopping, chow calls, eating meals with people who don't talk to you, falling asleep in leadership and chemistry after lunch, and how to get away with listening to music and watching movies on a Friday night when all of the upper class are out patronizing the Annapolis bars. If you want you can go to Saturday Morning Training with the plebes. It is all in good fun. It is a good deal for a plebe to drag a candidate. They rate music and movies and such, because you wouldn't want the guest getting bored doing homework on a Friday night. No chopping to, man what a deal. Be sure to ask a lot of questions from plebes to 1/c about everything from plebe year to service selection.

I will await the replies of grads and current mids, describing the delights and nuances of chopping! I can only say I was able to observe it first-hand, and stay well clear of dangerous intersections...

Chopping is running -- more of a jog than an all-out run. Plebes are required to chop down the middle of the passageways (halls) of Mother B (Bancroft Hall) except when in public areas (areas open to visitors). Chopping involves squaring corners, which means turning on a dime at corners, and "sounding off" (shouting out a cheer, such as "Go Navy" or "Beat Air Force") while so doing.

As for CVWs, as noted on a prior thread . . . being invited to a CVW is a good sign. However, it does NOT mean you're guaranteed an appointment. Also, not being offered a CVW is not necessarily a bad sign as there are way more qualified candidates than there are CVW slots. As for percentages of who gets CVWs and then gets admitted, no clue.

Chopping...leave it to USNA to make the simplest of things annoy you the most.
