what is the daily schedule like for plebes in academic year? On the naval academy website, it says there are 6 academic periods, and then 3:45 to 6pm is for numerous activities. What would a typical plebe do during that afternoon time period? also, what does "Arise for personal fitness workout (optional)" mean? Can plebes wake up early and go to the gym for example? Thanks in advance!

As a plebe "arise for personal fitness workout (optional)" is usually neither personal nor optional. Dependent on company, you can expect to have morning workouts 3+ days a week. As an upperclass this is much more flexible, as long as you can drag yourself out to morning quarters by 0700.

1545-1800 will be filled usually by sports. Varsity/club teams often don't get done with practice until after evening meal formation at 1830.
If you're on intramurals you might not have a game every day in which case your time is your own (sort of). You can go work out on your own, do homework, or...yeah, that's actually about it.

Also, you won't have class every academic period every day. Most plebes use that free time -- an hour here, an hour there -- to run errands (MidStore, dry cleaning, etc.) and study.
