Do Falcon Scholars ever change to an appointment once that's been offered?

My DD received a Falcon's Scholarship. Do they ever change their mind and offer them appointments? I know sometimes offers come in last minute where you go from a candidate to receiving an appointment days before, but once you get the scholarship offer is that it or can it still change?

It is possible that a direct slot will be offered after a Falcon scholarship has been awarded (but it is very rare). If your daughter's first choice is USAFA I encourage her to embrace the FF offer and make plans to attend one of the schools. Accepting the scholarship now will not affect her chance of receiving a late direct appointment. Her choices (of FF schools) are better the earlier she accepts. Some of the schools limit the number of Falcons and the choices will narrow as the schools fill up.

Never heard of it happening. If you accept the Falcon Foundation Scholarship, you choose a prep school, and fill out all the required paperwork for that. I just don't see them looking back over the file and changing their mind. Crazy things could happen though.

But there is one way to earn your appointment with a 99.9% chance. Take the Falcon Foundation Scholarship, do well at your prep school, and do all of your paperwork. To my knowledge, all but one of the Falcon Scholars has received their appointments this year (that one person is missing a nomination and was given an LOA, so they should get a VP nom). They call it the Golden Ticket for a reason :)

Unless things have changed...candidates that are offered FF Scholarships are made the offer because they are NOT going to receive an appointment but USAFA has a deep interest in them.

I can't say it's never happened but I've not heard of a candidate being offered the FFS and then being offered an appointment.

Right. I was just thinking that many times there are candidates just below the cut off (that are NOT going to receive an appointment) that get notified days before they are due to report because someone declines their offer last minute etc. So if Falcon scholars are in the same boat (just below the cutoff) that might apply to them too. Thanks for the info!

Hey do you mind sharing what your DD’s decision was and how they are doing now? I just received the FFS and I had the same question because I am really interested in USAFA. However, I also got an appointment to USNA, so I have until April 15th to make my decision on FFS.

Highly recommend looking around at other threads too. Acceptance rates are really high for falcons who complete the requirements given. The lowest is NWP at 98% andddd that because they didn't finish the program or got injured not because of the school.

When DD received FFS, she and I went to the website to investigate. Success rates for appointments are extremely high. We looked mainly at the last 10 years. I don’t think 20 or 21 stats were listed this time last year. The Falcon Foundation gives historical detail as well. Good luck with your decision.
