Hello. I am currently a knob at The Citadel. I couldn't get any congressional nominatioms because of my low High School performance. I had a 3.3 GPA and a 22 on the ACT.

However, I earned a 3.823 GPA for the fall semester at The Citadel and i'm applying to the Coast Guard Academy.

With prior experience as a 4th class cadet, will the Academy put less weight on my ACT score and more weight on my college GPA?

Any advice on the essays? I want to talk about my challenged I faced as a knob but I don't want to sound like I am talking about myself.

Can you retake the ACT? 22 is kind of low....

Retake the ACT. The deadline is Friday, so if you can't retake before then, carry on. It is important to have the best package you can, so I hope you're not just starting on it. I am not involved in appointment decisions, but doing well at the Citidel, depending on what courses you took, should be in your favor. Write your essays to reflect the reality of your challenges. The people on the review board understand and have been there, in one place or another.

Thanks. I am almost done with my application and I won't have time to retake the ACT. I will definitely talk about the challenges.
