I have been part of the AFROTC program for just over a year. On Wednesday of last week I was informed that my physical exam did not meet military standards because of having a history of recurrent and bilateral kidney stones. I am devastated. I haven't had any kidney stones for almost three years. I'm working on a rebuttal request, and I want to make sure that I include enough information.

I have a letter from my doctor stating that I have made life style changes including limiting my intake of pop/soda. I also have a letter from a Retired Rear Admiral MD who is stating that I am fit for duty because of this and other life style changes. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I should send in? I know that everything takes a while before you will hear an answer, but I want to make sure that I have everything.

Thank you everyone for your help.

I assume that DoDMERB DQed you? Have you been notified that the AF Waiver Authority is requesting a waiver? Remember, DoDMERB only goes through a checklist. They don't make the final determination. If you appear to be a strong candidate, AF will request a review by their Waiver Authority (WA).

Ok, that said, my DD went through this process last year. If/when AF requests a waiver review, you will be sent a list of items to return. What is requested is done on a case by case basis, but for the most part, medical records will top the list. My daughter also sent in letters from her doctor (who was a retired Col who worked at Walter Reed.) So, I think you're on the right track. Keep an eye on the DoDMERB portal because I've found that updates faster than you get the letters.

    Thank you for your response.

Over the summer they requested remedial information that included my medical records. Those were all sent in and I was then Disqualified. I do not meet the requirements for a waiver and that is what I am trying to rebuttal. The information I received in order to be reevaluated was "If a waiver is denied and an applicant feels that there is new evidence that shows the defect has been resolved or challenges the original determination, then a medical disqualification rebuttal request can be submitted." So that is where I'm at.

Then it sounds like the letters are exactly what you need to send. Good luck!

You should contact a cadre or dodmerb to see if they went through the waiver process, from what your saying you did not qualify for one and a denied waiver is required for a rebuttal but that may be just the way I'm reading it.

You also can try an exception to policy letter, it's pretty much a letter straight to the top asking for reconsideration if what your doing does not work out.

They did go through the waiver process and I was denied. The next step to overturn the decision is to do the rebuttal.

DQed AFROTC, sorry to hear about your situation. Contact Glenn at DoDMERB Consultants. He is the former director of DoDMERB and may be able to help. Best of luck.
