Does USCGA admission depend on major?

My son is applying to the USCGA and is considering mechanical engineering. At other colleges this is an impacted and competative major. For admissions does it matter which major he selects? Specifically would his chances for admission be greater if he selected a different major?

CGA is looking for STEM interested students. If your son is considering mechanical engineering, that is to his credit. I can't say if whether your son is considering mechanical engineering will give him an advantage in the admissions process. I am an Admissions Partner, but am not involved in Admissions decisions. There is a lot more that goes into those decisions than just major. And cadets do change majors. Your son will be a better cadet working on a major that interests him, and if that is mechanical engineering, that's great. The goal is a commission.

Agreed! Stick with Mechanical Engineering!
