Out of curiosity, how many here are Eagle Scouts and, to be fair, Gold Award receipients (Girl Scouts)?
DS (plebe) is Eagle Scout. One of his roommates is also an Eagle Scout. His roommate did get Philmont block for this summer. (They were told that it was unusual for plebes to get Philmont block.) DS is hoping to do it next summer. Should be a lot cheaper then the Alaska NOLS block he is doing this summer
Will it help chances if you are a NESA member and join the USNA chapter on campus?
NOLS is an awesome experience and hands down the best leadership training I've gotten associated with USNA. Good luck to your son! Is he doing mountaineering or sea kayaking?
Hurricane12, DS is going to be doing the Alaska mountaineering. Which NOLS trip did you do? I'm glad to hear you enjoyed NOLS. Congratulations on being a rising 1/C! (I know you guys have a few more weeks of this year left but it is going by fast!)
DS is Eagle, 6/10/10, 1 palm. Next week is a year since his project and he's waiting for results of March AROTC board - or SMP Ohio Guard if no offer.
OA, NESA and made it to Boundary Waters and Outer Banks NC, no Philmont either
I am currently working on my Gold Award; I will have my project completed by June. How much will earning it help me get accepted to the Service Academies and/or receive an ROTC scholarship?
