Hi y'all! I have been lurking and liking for a couple months. We are very early in our journey to USNA, USAFA or ROTC. My dd is a rising 8th grader and I'm a research nut so the minute she said "I want to do THAT!" I started Googling. That's how I ended up here. Up until a few months ago she was UT Longhorns or nothing so this came as a surprise to us. I think it started when she joined Sea Cadets.
Honestly out of my two kids, she was the last one I thought would show an interest in this route. She's our youngest and has never been given opportunities for leadership. Then she hit middle school and that all changed. She ran for student council and will probably be president for 8th grade. She's a charismatic, extroverted child so I know she will succeed whatever happens!
I love following people's stories, it fascinates me so I look forward to seeing everyone's journey!
I'm ex enlisted Navy, dh is Army, someone on my side has served every generation dating back to the Revolutionary War so I guess it's a natural progression! LoL

She just got home from her summer training and earned a challenge coin as the Honor Cadet. We love this program and it truly is the best kept secret in youth organizations. I know people on here have a mixed opinion of Sea Cadets but the opportunities she's gotten in just a short time have been well worth it.

UT has a great NROTC program. I would definitely keep that as a back-up plan.
