I had wondered that too. Then by pure chance, I came across the syllabus for Physics at the USNA, and the my wonder is addressed about half way down the page -- Why is this class important?

I found his argument persuasive. www.usna.edu/Users/physics/jwathen/CoursePolicySpring2010.doc

Your thoughts?

Of course on the Enterprise (the real one -- Captain James Tiberius Kirk's Enterprise, not the Aircraft Carrier CVN65) CPT Kirk had Chekov, Mr. Spock, Scotty, etc. and I doubt CPT Kirk would have known the difference between an open and a closed circuit, let alone the difference between impulse and warp drive ... but apparently in the real Navy, all officers need to have a basic understanding of physics and engineering.

Don't forget Lt. Uhura.

Seriously, that is very cool according to DS.
