Falcon Foundation

FF is basically the golden ticket UNLESS you do something wrong at the prep school. DS is at NMMI - it’s amazing! He has appointment for class of 2028. FF is an outstanding program and the cadets do very well at USAFA afterwards.

My DD accepted her FF after much disappointment that she did not receive a direct appointment, and I think it was the best thing that happened to her! She went to NWP for a semester, and second semeseter got to "adult" on her own in an apartment while going to community college to finish out the school year. She was more more mentally and emotionally with this route. There are a lot of FFs, prep kids, and prior enlisted along with the direct appointments so non-directs are more common than you think.

Hi I wanted to ask are there any facebook groups for parents of falcon scholars or one specifically for Randolph Macon Academy? I wanted to ask so my parents can join. Thank you.

I just joined a parent group for Falcon's, but it's for NWP. If you want to message me, I would be happy to connect with them. Maybe we should start a Falcon parent group that encompasses all of the prep schools.

I can't thank all of you enough for this thread. This truly settles my heart. Our DS was literally about to set his boot camp travel for his Navy Four Year Scholarship to attend The Citadel when he got his acceptance to the Falcon Foundation Scholarship literally yesterday morning. It was a lot of heart searching (I am a Citadel grad and it's hard to let go of a Navy scholarship) but he went with his heart and accepted it yesterday. All I've seen today makes me feel so much better about his decision! Of course USAFA is the one Academy we didn't get the chance to visit but many friends and family have and said it's spectacular. Now just having to get used to saying "Go Air Force" rather than "Go Navy". LOL

JKHDelta...I feel your angst/anxiety/some Alma Mater pain...

I was all set to go on either my AFROTC scholarship or my NROTC scholarship to dad's University of Florida when I got the call.

Long story short, I went to Northwestern Prep (back then it was in MN)...

The next year I entered USAFA. Of the 57 students at NWPS then, if my dimming memory serves, 53 of 57 were appointed to the SA of their choice.

Congratulations! My DS is also a Falcon scholar this year and USAFA is also the only academy he didn't get to visit. He attended Summer Seminars at USMA and USNA, but was turned down for USAFASS. Turns out they were the only academy to give him a chance. Haha!

There's a Prep School sub-forum here that has a wealth of information that I found invaluable when we first got word that we're headed down that path. Some stuff you'll have to use the search feature for, otherwise, just ask. Plenty of preppies and parents are happy to respond.

NWP in particular has its own FB page you can follow. Search for "Northwestern Preparatory School, California" although about mid semester last year, they moved to Instagram. I don't know if they'll continue with IG or go back to FB this year.

Our class didn't have a FB parents group...not that I could find anyway, and in retrospect, I'm kinda glad. For me personally, it allowed me to disconnect and not constantly be among speculatory chatter that can often times be needlessly worrisome. Students there have access to their cell phones and mine reached out every day in some form be it text, social media, even phone/video calls. I much prefer that over, "my kid just said this, did you hear from yours?" kinda deals. They're over there slaying proverbial dragons. If nothing, I proved to myself that I can let go, and be the on call support system.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. (DM me, or post in the Prep School forum, tag me, etc.) There were times we went through the "now what?" and "um...we haven't heard anything, how and when will we pay our portion? What about travel plans?" I will say, you're in very good hands with the Durbecks (who runs NWP.) Soon, if haven't already, your student will get emails from the Falcon Foundation with explicit instructions. You'll hear back once or twice from the Durbecks with a confirmation and some brief but important instructions, then you probably won't hear from them for a while - late July, early August as they're currently getting ready to send the NWP class of '23 off to their respective service academies. They personally travel to the service academies to see their students off to their I-Days. Follow NWP's FB and IG to virtually tag along, because this time next year, you'll likely be in those shoes. :)

Right there with you on that one. We had six trips to Annapolis over the past two years and he was sure that was the route he was going. Life has a funny way of messing with you. LOL
