What happens if your final semester gpa falls below 2.5? As long as you pass all classes and graduate, you would still Commission, correct? Are waivers required?

Depends on which ROTC program you are referring to. NROTC requires students maintain at least a 2.5 semester and cumulative GPA. If you drop below that threshold, a PRB is probable. If a students performance includes failing grades in Calc/Phys (Navy option), major classes, or Naval Science classes, a PRB is all but required. For a first offense with academics, probation or LOA are possible. For continued deficiency, LOA or disenrollment are more likely.

PRB - Performance Review Board
LOA - Leave of Absence

But wouldn't he already be "disenrolled" by graduating? Isn't a D in Structures or senior aerospace class passing? He has a Rated slot and orders in hand already also... why would the final GPA matter if he's graduating?

Everything I said was for NROTC. AFROTC has its own policies. He should consult his unit/advisor.

Thank you! I was just hoping that someone on here may have run into the same problem at one time....I couldn't find any info on the specific scenario anywhere else...
It makes sense that a PRB would waive him forward since his AF Rated position would have nothing to do with his AE degree...
Or is that just mom being optimistic?

There is another facet you need to look at. For some schools if that D is a requirement for his major, they may not allow him to graduate with that D.Thus, it is not necessarily the cgpa, but the actual class grade.

A few yrs back here there was a poster that found out 6 weeks prior to commissioning because they were pulling a D in one of their engineering classes, the college would not allow them to graduate until he pulled a C out of that class. The poster was disenrolled from ROTC because at that point he would not be graduating on time.

Not trying to be Debbie Downer, just trying to give you clarification that sometimes it could also be the school you need to investigate.

IF the cadet doesn't need higher than a D in that particular class to graduate with that degree from that college, he MAY just receive a "conditional event" for falling below the 2.5 mark but not be dis-enrolled, as long as he hasn't received a previous CE. A CE is an official counseling to the Cadet for failing to meet certain requirements and states what actions are being taken as a result. As stated above for other services, these actions may range from basically a warning that your on thin ice, to a suspension of the scholarship. It also serves as the notice to Air force HQ regarding the Cadets status to allow for decisions on the final disposition of the Cadet.
