Just a question I wanted to pose for all the appointees for 2013 that are flying out. Are you planning on checking your bag in due to your shampoo/body wash etc. or buying stuff when you get there? And if you are checking your bag in are you just carrying your paperwork through? I'm flying out tomorrow and was just curious as to what advice anyone could give me. Thanks!

I'm carrying it on. Wal-Mart has a special section in the toiletries for travel, so I bought a bunch of stuff w/i flying regulations. They all fit into a 1 quart bag, so I'm all good. I'm bringing all my stuff in a draw-string bag. Paperwork included.

I was recommended at Orientation, as a girl, to bring my own shampoo, ect. because the stuff sold at the C-store wasn't the best. So, while I bought the smallest regular sized bottles I could find, I'll still be checking my bag, and hand-carrying my paperwork in a drawstring back-back for the plane ride.

That was my concern because I have longer hair and I don't plan on getting my hair cut so I needed a bit more shampoo and heard the same thing. So I was wondering if I was looney for checking in my bag in case it got lost. But on a one way flight I don't think it'll happen. Plus we have that extra day... Thanks.

I just plan on bringing one travel size thing of body wash, toothpaste, and deodorant then buy more at the C-store. Not checking the bag...

Unless I buy another bag (I might), i'm checking it. My current duffel is a little too long to meet TSA carry on requirements.

it's so much easier to pay the $$ to check the bag than to try and make everything regulation. and i'm using a bookbag so maybe it won't be that big of a pain in the butt to carry around all day thursday.

I'm carrying one backpack on, and checking another with all the liquid items.

Question regarding paperwork... Right now all I have is my security clearance, birth certificate, and a copy of my immunization forms. What else should I have a copy of?

Also, should I bring envelopes for letters or will those be available? How many are you taking?

They recommend you bring a birth certificate or some other form of proof of citizenship also so be sure to bring that. Otherwise the only other thing I have is a prescription for my medication and my receipt for my plane ticket for when I go to the airport.

I'm taking the immunization forms, security clearance, BCG forms, Selective Service verification, Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Copies of the Uniform measurements, Insurance information, and emergency data. there might be a few other forms i'm not remembering at the moment.

Are we supposed to actually hand-carry our forms on I-Day? Or maybe just have them easily accessible in our bags?

You shouldn't have to pay for check-on with your paperwork since I believe that you are technically on 'orders.'

No one will care about the CFA, don't worry about it.

hehe, I remember how much it sucked when I arrived THREE years ago. You'll get used to it quicker than you think. Good luck!

I've been wondering about that too...I could handle draping 1 pair over my shoulders, but 2 could be a pain. Anybody else have any input?
