    Hi there,
I was wondering the process of becoming a Navy SEAL from the Naval Academy. I have heard of mini BUD/S but never had it fully explained to me.
    Thank you!

Do well on SEAL screeners, which are ongoing; get excellent grades; hit a homer when the interview time arrives.

"Excellent grades" to include military performance and conduct too...no significant "bonehead" incidents that demonstrate a disregard for consequences and poor impulse control. Hard work and single-minded focus. There are plenty of briefs along the way, as well as upper class to observe as they pursue SEALs.

As a midshipman you will have the opportunity to participate in VAST - Varsity Athlete in SpecWar Training. Check out www.iamthatman.com.

I think there are some older threads on this topic, but here's a quick rundown.

    - There are a couple of "weed out" steps. First, you need to make it through the SEAL "screener" weekend(s) during 2/C (junior) year at USNA. In recent years, there have been ~20-30 people make it out of ~70-90 who start the weekend.
    - Out of those who make it through the fall and spring screeners, only 40 people total are selected to attend "mini BUD/S" as one of their summer training assignments during the summer before Firstie (senior) year at USNA.
    - Out of those whose successfully make it through mini BUD/S, a SMALL number actually get slots for BUD/S training straight out of USNA. It used to be 16 slots/yr, but I think that increased to ~25.
    - These slots are REALLY competitive. At each selection/weed-out step they will evaluate every aspect of your development: academics, demonstrated leadership, physical and emotional readiness, etc. Three people from 2010 in my daughter's company really wanted BUD/S. The guy who got it was literally ranked first overall in his class.
