Alright, I haven't recieved a BFE or a TWE, and my ALO hasn't heard of anyone being accepted in Eastern Washington. I am thus preparing for my plan B option-BYU Honors Program- and don't know how to reapply. Should I ask my teachers of this year to fill out the academic endorsments, or should I wait for college teachers? I am retaking the SAT (I didn't do bad on my first one, but it can improve). I am still doing P90X, and will take my CFA at the end of August. This next time I want to shoot for an LOA, thus I need to finish my application relatively early. Does anyone have some tips? I figure this new thread will help people who still want to reapply and beat out next years high school seniors! lol. Time to band together plan B's!

I wouldn't give up just yet, here in western washington my liaison doesn't know of any applicants being accepted either. I think Washington might be last to be reviewed...

Ya that's what I've been thinking, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Why do you think they're taking so long to review Washington? it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Even though I am in college I had my high school teachers write my recommendation letters. Also, I don't think college students can get LOA's because in order for our application to be reviewed they need our first semester grades.

That makes sense. Do you know of any good extracurriculars while at college? I'm gonna intermural sports, but there aren't a lot of opportunities for freshman...

I think that among some other things, I'm going to work on getting a private pilot license over the summer if I (probably) get a QNV.

As for college, from what I've read, I think the thing to do is get the absolute best grades you could in your classes and excel in ROTC.

Leadership positions are good to have! Try to join a club where you can run for one of their officer positions.

    Mormons ftw
I think it would be best to wait for college teachers, but BYU has a lot of lecture classes, might want to stay in contact with your senior year teachers and see how it goes
Hope you get in this year, I think AFA has the most Mormons out of all the service academies

    R-O-T-C.

I really doubt anything could look better on your application than that

    I have two nominations, senator/rep.

No BFE or status change. I emailed my Liaison, and am very nervous. I didn't expect this frankly (this late in the game). My neighbor who sent a son to AFA recently said he didn't receive his appointment until May, and that was with prep school.

You guys make some excellent points. BYU is notorious for huge lecture classes, but I am in the Honors Program which has considerably smaller classes... I'll hold off until the end of the semester for the letters. Can I still get a scholorship for ROTC? Do I incur any committment if I only do it for a year (reapplying in the mean time)? I would really appreciate some information on this.

It is too late for a ROTC scholarship, but you can join without one. Contact the local detatchment on Thursday and they'll help you out.

Bummer, sounds like a plan. I've already saved enough for a few years at BYU, I was just hopin' to save a little. Thanks DAD! (such an awesome tag!)

    Hi otterpop!

I received an Appointment after the second try!
So, I may be able to give some advise.
I reapplied to the USAFA (freshman at UW/Seattle), and essentially used my senior year teachers for my application. Also, make sure that this time you maximize you scores whether its SATs, Personal Fitness Test etc. and your college grades! Applying early wouldn't hurt either.

    EDIT
I received an ROTC Scholarship as well last year so I went ahead and participated in the program, I think this was also a very important part of the application!
So go ahead and do ROTC if you can!

    Good luck!

Hey Xeon, first congratulations!! Thats awesome. I have a question for you. Do you know if they won't look at your application until you report your first semester college grades? I also heard not to bother with the SAT since it is a predictor of college success, and it will be redundant since you are in college. Thanks,

At my school at least, there are always a ton of volunteer activities/oppurtunities to take advantage of. They have entire volunteer service days and I'm sure most other schools have them too. Plus the volunteer activities looks great when reapplying to the academy! :shake:

Hey thanks guys! I guess a year won't hurt me. I mean, I've probably got 70 more years to live (my family is notorious for living long lives for some reason). I am already signed up for the SAT, I might as well destroy it! I am doing the P90X to prepare for the CFA, does anyone have a better tip? I am completely open. Do you guys think it would look better if I organized a community service project? I think that would look impressive. I also am doing the Service Academy Application process for my Senior Project, and am thinking about giving presentations to the middle schools and freshman classes, since no one really knows about the academies in spokane (I didn't know). ROTC won't lock me into committment will it? Sorry about all the questions, I might just contact my ALO. lol

My first quarter ended December 11 and grades came out ~ a week after that. I received the Appointment in late December. It is possible that they waited for the grades to come in but judging from the time span and how slow my transcript was sent etc. perhaps not.

Honestly, I'm not too sure. I would double check with the ALO just in case I'm mistaken.

But from my perspective the most reasonable approach would be to go ahead and review applications and wait for the semester grades to come in to either seal the deal or defer the application further.

My son is reapplying as well. Contact your counselor if you want to reapply so they can save your file forward. She said it DOES count and look very good if you reapply, and that 30% of incoming classes, traditionally, are from kids already in college. We already know son is getting the QNV letter (counselor replied via email) but it has not come yet. Prep and Falcon decisions will be made last week of April this year per counselor. Hope this helps.
