I'll be going to VMI this fall, and during my overnight and a few other conversations I've heard stories about kids coming in full JROTC Uniforms, which I'd say is pretty dumb. Even dumber that that though, apparently one kid expected the rats to salute him.
I've never seen anyone come to an overnight like that, and I really can't believe that anyone could be so dumb.
Have any of you ever seen someone act like that in person?
One thing along those lines that I did get the privilege of seeing in person was a kid who raised his hand at the Citadel pre-knob and asked the Army ROTC guy, "If you go into the military, will you get killed?"
Share any such stories, but I'd love to know if anyone has ever seen someone roll in in a full JROTC getup.

Guess I have a few JROTC stories I could share. I'm not in JROTC myself, so this is just what I've seen.

-Kid shows up in full Marine JROTC uniform to Air Force Academy Summer Seminar.
-Did an overnight at Norwich. My guy told me essentially the same thing. JROTC kid came in uniform, expected a salute. Apparently he also told the cadet that Norwich was his 9th choice of schools.

I know I have one or two more, but can't think of them. I'll add them if I can remember.

To me it's not about JROTC, the uniform, or the orginization as a whole. I'm going to steal a quote that I read from somewhere on these forums. It's not the uniform, it's the attitude that comes with it.

A few AFRTOC firsties once yelled at some 4 degrees at the academy for not saluting them. They were quickly informed that cadets at the academy don't salute each other. Another informed us that "I had to work hard to get my pilot slot" after commenting on how many slots went to the academy...of course she did that while eating with about a dozen rising 3 digs. Let me tell you, there were a couple death glares!

Lesson for everyone: Don't assume too much.

Of course you could have pointed out that you had to work harder to get to USAFA, and that's why they give so many pilot slots to the academy--because they know USAFA grads can cut it at UPT already:yllol::wink:

Ah, the exuberance of youth. We had some interesting run-ins with ROTC folks during my WP time, though I think that oddly enough the people who got the funniest ribbing were the guys who wore their letter jackets from High School. There's an old mess hall table joke that goes along with that...
