Got the TWE I was told I'd be getting after the first admissions board met in September :/ in that period of time I got two nominations and almost felt like they were a waste since I knew I wouldn't be getting in...

Chance I will be recruited to play football at West Point, but if that doesn't work out I will be opening a new file on April 1st...

Congrats to all appointees. I am very envious, even though I'm trying not to be.

    Mooradian,

From a fellow Pennsylvanian. I am extremely proud of your efforts and YOU did not waste time. Remember, YOU did get a AROTC Scholarship, which is a very big deal.

God Bless and God Speed to YOU and your family,

    RGK

Sorry to hear this, but remember two things:
    1. Envy is not necessarily a bad thing. Envy can be a great motivator. Use it!
    2. Be prepared to fall in love with your new school, your new friends, and AROTC. Who know? You may decide to stay... and if you don't, that's OK too! Sounds like a win-win in that sense to me.

Mooradian - my son is an applicant from your State. How is it that you knew back in Sept,.
that you were being rejected? The two State Senator deadlines for packages was Oct. 1st. Did Senate service panel who interviewed you know you had already been rejected and why would tney nominate you?

My BGO told me I was deemed unqualified in September. Which pretty much means I wouldn't get in and wouldn't get naps since I am not a minority or recruited athlete or whatnot. I had a presidential, a congressiona and no, the boards never knew I was rejected because I wasn't officially rejected at that point. I was still clinging to hope.

    Hope that helps.

I was not aware that BGO could share or even be privy to the information that you were deemed unqualified 6 months before you received official notification from USNA. And don't ever give up hope - more than one way to achieve your goals. Good Luck!

I'm sorry to hear about the TWE from Navy. I remember that you caught a bad break with a bad concussion in high school -- it sounds like your school may not have understood how long it can take to recover, and how unpredictable it is and how individually dependent. Even the armed forces are still learning with concussions.

The very best of luck with your shot at admissions to West Point -- that would be great if it worked out. If it doesn't, it's great that you've got an AROTC scholarship lined up and are on target for a commission and well set up for re-applying if you don't fall in love with life at civilian college.

It's tough to look at the big picture when the small picture (the TWE in the mailbox slot) seems like such a gut punch. But from your posts, you seem like you've been able to do that unusually well so far. Good things about the big picture: you've got your DODMERB clearance, so being an officer is still attainable; it sounds like you've got the means (scholarship and otherwise) to attend an excellent four-year university; you've got the smarts to tear it up while you're there; and down the road, when you're a plebe at West Point or Navy or going through Ranger School or Marine IOC or BUDs, you'll be the guy who knows he can pick himself back up after a short term disappointment.

I hope you keep on updating everyone how things go. And again, good luck with the folks up the Hudson.

In the past (including earlier this year), the policy was not stated as clearly as it is now.

And, BGOs don't always know that early and, in fact, usually don't.
