Our sons are USCGA 2021 and their final year is just around the corner. Over the years we've noticed folks renting out cottages for a week around graduation. Anyone know how much free time the 1/Cs actually get during graduation week? We wonder about the usefulness of the cottage option. We like to plan well in advance for the big day.

I didn’t rent a house. I have 5 hotel rooms for 2 days , check out the day off. 3 rooms got a week. Grandparents live in NJ. We are from Florida.

Our ensign was Class of 2019. We rented a house from the Friday before graduation until the Friday after. Firsties will have gangway, and are only required to sleep in Chase Hall the night prior to the graduation ceremony. They do have graduation rehearsals and activities to attend to, and the week is very busy, but we had lots of time together. The extra full day after graduation was nice just to decompress and relax. We also appreciated having the rental house as it allowed our daughter to move her stuff out of Chase Hall the weekend prior to graduation. All firsties must have all their belongings out of Chase Hall right after the graduation ceremony. Best to book a property early! Many do so a year or two in advance.
