Hopeful USMA Class of 2028 : a place to play the waiting game together.

DS received the call from our MOC yesterday afternoon (During his band concert), DS told MOC "it is not good time to talk" LOL, MOC said this is a quick congratulations of his appointment to USMA! Currently waiting for the portal update and the BFE.
Congratultions!

Casually found out last night that my son was offered his appointment on Thursday. He's the one who is enlisted in Hawaii (I'm in FL) and earlier in the week we found out he was finally medically qualified, so we knew the appointment was imminent (3Q, LOA, enlisted), but you know how I found out? His unit's facebook page! After calling him in Hawaii and calling him a stinker for not telling me right away, he says, "mom, I just figured you knew it was all good." Boys!!! He's about to make Sergeant (just graduated BLC and was made a Corporal) and has a few more months in Hawaii to enjoy before R day. I know he has EIB testing coming up and that's a big goal before he leaves enlisted life for West Point.

Is there an official Class of 28 parents FB page or any other groups I can join? Are there any groups (snapchat, etc) he should join?
Congrats!

There’s a Snapchat group for the 2028 future cadets.

There’s 2 Facebook groups. I had to actually join Facebook as I had been avoiding social media (besides forums like this). There’s a West Point Moms group (great to get some advice from moms with older kids) and a West Point Class of 2028 Parents group. You have to provide some info about your cadet and they let you in. The groups have been helpful to read about breaking in boots/low quarters, places to stay, dates, etc.

Yes there is an official West Point Class of 2028 page on FB. Also the West Point Moms page. Congratulations. Also buy the Joiner book: West Point Moms Survival Guide available on Amazon.
Because really you are going to have to tap into the network for the next four years and even the rest of your life w your kid as an adult.

Will do! I joined similar groups for my current USMMA plebe (class of 27) this time last year and it really helped. We have a cool state parents group too (for USMMA). This is weird for me because my DS has been off in the Army on his own for the last almost 3 years and has been independent. I joked with him how excited I was to finally order my WP Mom tee shirt and he lovingly groaned. I already have my Army Mom shirt I wore just before he left for Basic Training a few years ago. Thanks for the book recommendation!

Congratulations to everyone on their recent appointments!

My daughter (class of 2028) received a call from our MOC on 2/21 to let my daughter know of her appointment to USMA. It took a few days for her portal to reflect her admission status.

She will be doing an overnight visit next week, during our Spring Break. Is anyone else headed to USMA next week?

Trying to figure out the packing list. Reading some of the other posts and referring to the "civilian dress" section of the USMA website, it certainly seems like they are expected to dress a little more formally than what she experienced during her overnight at Annapolis or at SLE last summer. Anyone have advice about the attire? We are from Florida and sneakers are practically formal wear down here!

DD got her appointment offer via portal update FRI15MAR2024.
It was a crazy FRI as offer for admission came in as well from UCLA, UC San Diego and UC Irvine.
DD is USMA bound Class of 2028.
Congratulations to all who have committed to join The Long Grey Line.
Congratulations!!

Congratulations! I have to smile about finding out on facebook page first! Happened to me, some event I found out thru facebook page. Super limited info on his end and I'm always the TMI mom. 😂

When we went for a day visit, DD wore casual black sneakers because there was so much walking around to be done! I suggest something comfortable for walking and standing in. But nothing that draws attention--DD has pink Crocs--I advised against that! DD wore a simple blouse and pants and it seemed appropriate. I wore something akin to khakis and a blouse.

A while back I retook the SAT, and scored 10 points higher on my math. However, my verbal score dropped quite significantly. I understand West Point Superstores, but I'm concerned that if I were to send the new scores, the large verbal drop may raise a red flag. Is this the case?

I have been told not to be concerned about that. They look at your super score and don't pay attention to drops. Sometimes a candidate's strategy is to focus on math in one test and English on the next. It will be fine.

no worry. They look super score. Definitely summit.

Similar thing happened to me. West Point super scored and did not bat an eye and I was able to earn an appointment 😁

They understand that every SAT is different.

Our D wore casual clothing that still looked put together. Slacks were sort of trendy athletic pants that were nicer than joggers but not khakis. Her tops were athletic stuff and she mostly wore a hoodie. It's really tough for the girls because they normally wear leggings or jeans, so they don't have a lot of casual pants. I do think wearing nicer jeans would be fine.

I, the Dad, wore casual slacks and a collared shirt. It was a very informal briefing and tour, so don't sweat it.
