I'm not a BGO. But I am a USNA graduate. I also have two sons who graduated from USNA. I recently had a kid who is applying to USNA ask me, "How do you get scheduled for a DODMERB medical exam?"

Isn't that explained somewhere very clearly? Don't candidates get any guidance on this? Surely, there is an instruction within the CIS (Candidate Information System) that walks a candidate through it. I was amazed that he was so clueless about this. I didn't know what to tell him.

If he is a viable candidate he will receive a letter from Concorde, the company handles the exam process.

I didn't mention, he is an official candidate for USNA - so it's even more puzzling why he doesn't understand this.

If he has been put in the system but for some reason has not been notified he can try logging on to the Concorde website.
if he is in the system he will be able to gain access and complete his "packet" and find out where he is supposed to schedule his exams

Official candidate is part of it, but they have to fill out x amounts of their application to get scheduled. Not sure on percent, but they will be notified once they complete somewhere around half their application. If the candidate thinks they have submitted enough of their application have them talk to their BGO or contact admissions.

My DS received an email to log on the website and set up password. It's a lot of information they ask. I recommend a parent sit with the candidate for this portion since they ask medical for medical history, dates, etc.

What do you mean by "viable candidate"? He has a candidate number. Aren't all official candidates required to finish all aspects of the admission process - including the DODMERB medical exam? This candidate seems confused about how this medical exam happens and I don't know what to tell him. Apparently, his BGO hasn't answered him. I can't imagine there can be any confusion on this basic element of the admission process. Who's "Concorde"?

Concorde is probably the outsourced contractor for accessions medical.

DoDMERB contacts the candidate when their application is 50% complete.

Agree with truenorth. It seems to me reaching 50% completion is probably a good place to draw the line to pay for the exams that the candidate will likely finish the application.

Concorde is the contracted company/agency to manage exams for DoDMERB.

Tell him he will be contacted when his application reaches that level. I imagine he still has more than a few items yet to be submitted.

@memphis - when my DD applied last year there really was no explanation on the portal. I do not remember the exact wording but I think it just listed it as "Medical: not complete" with zero direction on what to do or how to proceed.

Her BGO told her the medical would be triggered once she reached 50% of the application as completed. When she reached that point, she received a letter in the snail mail from Concorde telling her to set up an online account and make appointments with X for the eye exam and X for the medical exam.

After her exams were finished her portal updated to "medical complete".

There really was nothing on the portal beyond that, so I can understand why the applicant is confused.

My son is going through the process now, and he received an email with the scheduling information. I would agree that happened when he was a little over halfway through the process, though he applied to both the USNA & USAFA so I'm not sure which one triggered it. The medical is in a city about an hour away, and he's finishing his school sports season so we're calling this week to schedule. Eye exam is in our own community.

If you wait too long you will get another email saying you have 15 days to schedule your appointments.
Once scheduled you enter the appointments in the Concorde portal.

Do you know if they have to be just scheduled or completed in that 45 day period? thanks!

scheduled, but it is in your best interest to complete the exams as soon as possible.

We did not receive the initial email(s) that gave us the DodMERB information. I contacted admissions two weeks and then a month after application was completed and both times they told us we should get it "soon". The next day we received an email from Concorde telling us that we were sent information a month ago and that she had 15 days to complete. We scoured past emails and never found the original info to complete the DodMERB. We had to scramble to get exams scheduled and competed.

That's seems to be what happened my son, just got the 15 day email a couple of days ago. Thanks for the info

My DS received the same letter stating he had 15 days to complete. We checked and couldn't find any email pertaining to DoDMERB. Scheduling is rather quick for taking the medical so that was a relief.

Same thing with my DS, no letter or e-mail, just late letter. I called Concorde and they said not to worry, just schedule the exam. He scheduled it a month later so in his case the 15 days wasn't a deadline, more of a reminder. What we have found in all of this application process is a phone call clears up most issues. It seems today everyone relies too much on e-mails. For example my DS had an injury where he could not take CFA by required date. Made a phone call to admissions and they gave him an extension.
