I am currently a Cadet. Any questions?

One of my high school students will be there. Any tips I can pass on?

How's your AY? Entire experience at USMA?
The AY is difficult. Lots of homework. It's just a consistent going to bed at midnight and waking up at 620. You can make of it what you want. If you want a high GPA your going to be grinding harder then if youre fine with being middle of the pack or just getting by. Some people study for an hour or so before major tests, others study for many hours. Either way, it is difficult and you have to learn how to manage assingments (I use outlook) and time. Being able to not get distracted is important but also learning how to not let the academics consume your life is equally important. I'd like to describe it as high school just on steroids. The work isn't neceearily difficult work its just a lot of it. Forgive the run on sentences. Hope that helps.

What is the best/worst thing about West Point in your opinion? Is there anything you wish you knew or had done differently as a plebe?

best: lots of people that are really good and care about their lives (not as degenerate as a lot of other universities) worst: the absolute bs FRAGOs and just incompetence of higher leadership

Thanks for being willing to answer questions! How long did you realistically have off for Thanksgiving and the winter/Christmas break? I have seen the schedule but wasn't sure if that was a sure thing or if plebes are likely to have jobs that interfere with one end or other of leave. Is that really variable or consistent? Also, if you travel out of state, what is the easiest airport/best way to get there? I heard the Stewart International airport is closest but can't find much info on logistically how to fly in/out of there.

For Airports, we like EWR (Newark) because it is best for traffic, you dont have to cross into the city which often is busy. Transportation for cadets is also good to and from EWR using Mac Moms during the break periods, but you need to make an online reservation, and costs more than the train https://www.macmomservices.com/

Trains to and from Garrison/EWR do have extra legs, but its doable. You will figure it out. Just ask around your company if anyone is making the trek and follow along. LGA (Laguardia) has one stop from Garrison. Depending on the time of year there is a ferry from West Point to Garrison, and back, but it can be hit or miss.

Just wondering if you know if there is a orchestra at west point? Or are there only small clubs.

Do AIAD internship get paid by employer also? This is on top of the cadet monthly pay. Thank you.
