I remember finding this forum during my DD’s application process for the national Army ROTC scholarship. Such a great source of information and encouragement over the years, and so many people that feel more like friends than anonymous people on a forum. She started as a nursing scholarship recipient, but had a change of heart her sophomore year and was granted a scholarship transfer from nursing to a line scholarship. She commissioned last year and received her first choice branch of Infantry.

This morning she graduated from Infantry BOLC at Fort Benning. To hear her name called was emotional for this Mama and I am so proud of her. This is the beginning of her career and just like at the beginning of her education, I cannot wait to see all the things that come next for her.

I remember someone saying, (I don’t remember which member said it when she and others received their scholarships), this is just the beginning. I remember also feeling that when she graduated and commissioned last May, and I feel that again today. This is really just the beginning. For anyone reading this that is just starting school in the fall, this is just your beginning, but a very big one, and it goes so fast!

Agree whole-heartedly about this just being the beginning. That was DS' outlook on commissioning. He said something like, "This is just the beginning. Now I have to go out and earn it." He talked of how he had to prove himself worthy of the scholarship he received and the position he would be assuming. I was telling him how disappointed I was for him (and his mom and me) that his commissioning would be virtual. He responded that this may actually be a blessing and it may keep the class more focused on where they were going and the work ahead, instead of being distracted by what they accomplished.

Such a great servant leader mindset! I love this! My daughter’s was virtual too last year and because of a national dress blues pants shortage, they were not able to wear them, so her commissioning was very casual. But at the end of the day, they called her a 2LT and it opened the door to her career, so she did not care! Congrats to your son and keep us posted on him, I remember his journey well and yours!

Even though the commissioning was virtual, it was a special day. We were able to be together, along with some additional family that made the trip out to his commissioning. Putting that shoulder board on him as DW put the other one one and DD placed his cover on his head was a proud, special moment. DD even put his cover on straight and properly position, instead of pulling down over his ears as far as she could. Maturity is a wonderful thing! 🤣. For now he is enjoying his time stashed at the NROTC unit waiting for BDOC to start next month. The actual work is light, so he is soaking up advice from the unit staff and enjoying some R&R activities with his fellow ensigns who are waiting for schools to start.

I hope in a few months I hear about her earning the coveted Ranger Tab! Good luck to her!

I was on Benning this morning and caught the tail end of the ceremony. Congrats to your DD. It was a beautiful morning for a graduation ceremony.
