I'm just curious... What's my Chances?

As far as ACT score...higher is better. My experience is that the mean score is normally 24 - 26.

From a VA poster and a Mom, I would think that your SAT is would make JMU a reach school for admissions purpose from OOS.

They will only take @25-30% from OOS, and JMU is like GMU. It typically will have 30K+ applicants. Almost every kid in No. VA applies to JMU if their scores are even in the realm as their match, safety or reach.

I don't have a friend that doesn't have at least one kid that didn't applied to JMU, that is how popular it is here. It is also more popular among those that want to attend a LAC.

The point is you need to realize when creating your list that you may get the scholarship, but a waitlist or rejection letter from the college.

Thanks for the advise pima, i'll take that into consideration, my top choice is truly SC and if I get a scholarship that isn't to that unit then I would seriously consider not taking it because I have fallen in love with that campus and their programs.

You are now in the minutia aspect. Many actually do not turn it down because of multiple reasons.

1. You may be offered the scholarship prior to college admission acceptance letters.
~ IOWS You get into TAMU, but have yet to hear from USC. ROTC scholarship in hand to TAMU
2. Come end of April/May you can request a transfer.
~ You get accepted to USC, but no scholarship. You can request AROTC to transfer the scholarship to USC.
~~ This is gut wrenching because at the same time colleges are requiring deposits. Do you double down on deposits? One to each school, or take the risk that the scholarship will be transferred.

I would also suggest you google USC admissions stats. Kinnem probably can tell you how competitive that school is for OOS admissions since his DS attends there.
~ Every state varies regarding % that can be admitted OOS compared to IS. VA, due to high property taxes, do not like ruffling the feathers of their constituents, thus the limit is set for IS vs OOS admissions. I know Maryland also does this, and too is in the 25-30%.
~~~ USC being a large university known nationally, you might have better odds coming from CA. They don't want all of their OOS students to come from NC, GA, FL. They want to spread the wealth, but still it can be competitive.
Good luck
PS.
Anyone that has been here for a decent amount of time will tell you many do not find out on the 1st board. Main reason why is that is the board they set the bar. It is not uncommon to be reboarded at least once. If you get it on the 1st shot, GREAT. If you don't, don't FREAK.
sportster97,
Clearly from your 1st choice and avatar you're a gamecock fan... Good times! Have you been to the school to visit, if not make the trip. Excellent all around!
Take the ACT as someone has noted... A 32 would be fantastic; however, if you manage a 30 you will be in good good shape. That would be a 30 in the math & english.
I have taken the ACTs before but only got a 25 composite, I will retake them and focus for a higher score. Last time I took them it was right after AP testing and I wasn't focused well. I am a big gamecock fan, even though my parents are bulldog fans, I have not been on the campus yet(waiting for an acceptance letter first) considering I live in CA. But I have fallen in love with it from pictures and previous/current student reviews
I understand where you're coming pima and if I am awarded a scholarship that will be something I will have to decide since I won't hear back from SC until early action week in the middle of December. I would like to have as many chances I can with the board, hence why I want to have it in my the first one.
