Incomplete DoDMerb and acceptance

If an applicant has not completed the dodmerb will this affect their acceptance, or if they were to be accepted, they would simply receive a conditional appt. instead of direct? Is completion of dodmerb something the candidate review board considers?

The DODMERB process and evaluation of your application are separate. If you have not completed the DODMERB process or if you are DQ’d by DODMERB, then you would receive a conditional appointment offer instead of a full appointment offer if CGA decided they wanted you..

Also a direct appointment is a different thing. Direct refers to whether it they go directly to the academy vs taking a year of prep school before attending the academy. A conditional appointment means the academy would like you to attend, but on condition that you complete other requirements such as DODMERB.

Do most applicants for early action get their DODMERB email before hearing from the admissions board? If you get the email that your app has gone into review is that a bad sign?

Make sure you're checking your spam. When my son (class of '25) applied, his DoDMERB email went to his spam folder. From comments on this forum, that's not uncommon.

My DD completed the DoDMERB and they used a disqualification for asthma after 13. However, that diagnosis was from a pediatrician we never agreed with and ended up at an ENT and a new primary doc. They both agreed it was not asthma, had her do a pulmonary lung function test and an allergy panel. Turns out this whole time she was allergic to our two cats. She has never used an inhaler but is now on allergy meds. If she were to get accepted would a waiver be possible to override the incorrect diagnosis that happened years ago?

I am almost positive my daughter never received an email regarding DODMERB but we followed the advice on this forum and went to DODMETS site, entered her SSN and she was in the system.

So if she gets an EA acceptance hers will be conditional since her appointments will not be completed by end of month.

If she gets a denial we figured we will just cancel the appointments. But when scgeduled the offices could not get us in for 3+ weeks out.

My daughter checked the DODMETS site with her soc and nothing came up 😬. I assume your daughter is Early Action?

Thank you! She’s been checking- and obviously anxiously anticipating any sort of contact from CGA. It’s been a week since she received the “your application is in review” email so at least we know her emails are coming through. Thank you so much for your response- class of 25’ for your son! Has the time flown by for you?

It has gone by unbelievably fast. He just paid for his class ring! He was home for Thanksgiving and we were talking about how happy he is to be at the CGA - perfect fit for him. I remember how we were sweating decisions this time of year when his application was in process. Every time someone new posted to the appointment thread, I wondered if he would hear soon. He got his appointment notification on 12/9 in his cycle, I think, so not too bad - well before the EA decision deadline. Such a relief! Bets of luck to your daughter. The CGA is a very special place filtering into a very special career.

Yes. My son was prescribed an inhaler after 13. He is currently a student at the academy.

We checked the dodmets as suggested. We finally saw the request from CGA. Do we have to schedule an appointment now? Or wait to receive the email from them? Is it a good sign? The application is still under review as of today.

Read the instructions on DODMETS, the applicant should complete the med history with the parent's assistance and schedule the 2 appts now (medical and optometry). Depending where you are located, you may have to schedule several weeks out, so don't delay.
My kids never received an email from DODMERB or DODMETS until after DODMERB received the exams from the medical providers.
My kids' applications are still just in "submitted" status with the Academy, so the DODMETS status is not tied to the application status.

One suggestion. Go with the military docs but f you can. They know what tests you need. We couldn't go with a military doc for the breathing test and had a lot of trouble trying to figure out what test was needed and ended up having to go twice.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. We will schedule the appointment now. Best of luck to all!
One other thing, they can be screwy about choosing the most convenient locations to where you live. You can ask them to check providers in different cities that may be closer to what they suggest. And, plenty of providers will do the medical and audiology at the same appointment and location. If they try to give you 2 totally different locations for each of those appointments, I'd request a provider that does both. We experienced all of this last year going through the process.

Also, Be sure to read all of the instructions prior to going to the appointments as well. For the eye appt there are guidelines about not wearing contacts for a certain number of days, and for girls, there are guidelines about scheduling appointments within certain number of days of menstrual cycle. These may not apply to you but just examples.

Thank you. My son was provided with 2 different providers that is in 2 different cities, 1 hour drive in different direction. So we are thinking of making a request or just give them a call and get it done and over with. We just found out about the dodmets application last Friday through this discussion forum. This is such a helpful resource and information. Thank you very much for sharing your experience and expertise with us.

If your candidate hasn’t gone to the DoDMERB home page and worked their way through every item and link in the left-side menu, including Contacts, I recommend it. FAQs, the process , etc.

No login required to do this research.

This is so good to read, how wonderful for your son to be having such a terrific experience. My DD has want to attend a service academy for a very long time, it had always been the USNA and Marine Corps but over the past 2 years she began talking with more USCG alum and enlisted and she made a switch. As she looked into what she wanted to do as her military/service career continued after the academy, her love of the oceans and time on the water made her realize Marine Corps officer might not align as strongly. Due to time restraints and not being able to attend any events at the CGA she’s nervous that she hadn’t made any CGA connections/met in person. She did do the overnight stay at the USNA and loved it- 5 am runs, attended classes, rushed through meals, got lost, and spent 2 nights rather cold at night because she never got the memo to bring a blanket haha. She loved the atmosphere and can’t imagine herself in any school other than a service academy. USCGA is what she wants so my fingers are crossed for her. Thank you for your insight and all the best to your son and your family as you support him.
